I got a phone call to pick him up at 5:30pm.
paid my bill £390. It was actually 200 for the dental & 90 for the IV fluids, as said before the bloods were £100, but no teeth extracted. Apparently his teeth were more discoloured rather than tartar but any there was has been removed. He has some gingivitis but not too bad. He's had dentisept gel applied to his teeth, apparently it contains Chlorhexidine which is a disinfectant, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal ingredient.
He was the last one going into surgery so still is rather wobbly/unstable. Although advised to give him soft/bland food e.g. chicken & rice (forget the rice he always roots out the chicken & leaves the rice) or scrambled egg (he'd not a fan). Also a little & often.
I've tried both options & he goes to the bowl & then doesn't have anything. I've shut him in the dining-room & conservatory so that I can ensure he doesn't attempt to go upstairs to reduce risk of failing. Think I'll go & get fish & chips & hopefully he'll have some of that.

Got the fish & chips. Given him a small amount of fish (batter removed) which he went up on to the dining table to eat, his choice he was going up via a chair before I could put it on the floor. He still wanted out but wasn't stable enough yet. He was still walking with legs crossing and wobbly at the same time but better than he before. Lexie's also had some fish & I've had mine, less the odd chip which Lexie stole!
Just been to see how Osiris is & to give him some more. He'd eaten the first lot but is still staggering but happily had some more fish. I'll give him another hour and see how he is & maybe some more fish. Only when he's not staggering will I let him out for a short while, otherwise he'll be very fractious.

Glad that Osiris is ok even if he is still staggering. Kiba-Khan is still staggering about. He's not eating a lot and is drooling a bit. He's sat on my lap and purring. He's got 3 lots of tablets. Cost? £545!

Nutmeg managed to break a back tooth on Wednesday and had to go in for a dental op ( under G/ A which was very scary for her humans due to the risk associated with her heart) on Thursday morning. I collected her mid afternoon.......price just under £700.00 !

So sorry to hear about Nutmeg meandmine I can only imagine it was for you 🥲worrying about the op especially in her current condition 🥲how is she now ? That was a very pricey bill 🙈 Her teeth/ mouth are fine but the anaesthetic seems to have affected her heart and the vet has said to increase one of her medications and hope that it helps. The worse thing was that I was asked what I wanted them to do if she 'crashed ' while under the anaesthetic ( ie did I want them to resuscitate her). Knowing what they would have to do to her I said no but thank goodness it obviously didn't happen as she coped surprisingly well. Again apologies for hi jacking the thread.

Sorry. Have been so worried about Nutmeg that I forgot to ask about Osiris and Kiba -Khan. I hope they are both recovering well and are back to "normal" very soon.

I'm pleased that Nutmeg is ok, I know how worried you must have been. That was a big bill. Kiba-Khan is recovering well, thank you. He's eating well but it is a nightmare trying to get the tablets down him. Blackberry sat on one and reduced it to powder! KK didn't want to go out in the pen for a few hours and he wanted to come in early and sit on me, bless him. I hope Osiris is recovered today tonib.

Osiris recovered enough by 9:30/10pm so was allowed out, he didn't go far. He had the last of fish for his supper with a little cat food which he left (as normal). Saturday & today he's only having a little of his cat food (as normal) but is happy to have chicken/ham. I had a mix of tuna & Philly in a sandwich yesterday & he was very interested & had a bit but when I tried him with Applaws' tuna he just ignored it - go figure!!! Oh & when I picked him up I got a copy of the blood test results & noticed his blood glucose was a bit high but the vet put it down to stress, which reminded me of Roman when the vets thought that of him initially then realised on a 2nd test it was diabetes!! But apparently Osiris really was stressed when they tried to take the blood without sedating him first - I should have reminded them he needs the sedation which they did in the end!! Glad to hear Kiba-Khan is OK now lotsofcats, pills are a nightmare with Osiris, if I can disguise them in something he really likes then I might be able to give him them no way straight into his mouth. Blackberry probably thought she was helping KK by crushing the tablet. As they wanted him to have Metacam did they have to remove any teeth?

Don't apologise for hi-jacking the thread meandmine after all it was related. Sorry to read about Nutmeg's tooth and the scare the vets gave you with their pre-op what if question. How's her heart now with the increased medication? Do you have to go back? Interesting comparing the bills. There is quite a variance between all 3 of us, not just between cats & dogs. Osiris's dental was only £290 including extra IV fluids the other £100 was the blood test. Don't know if KK had blood tests as well but even if he did it is still £155 more - although that would have included his tablets. They may have had to give even more fluids than Osiris & I suppose they could have included a consultation fee as he had that appointment at 9 am with the vet. Nutmeg's would have been more as they would have had to use more of the anaesthetics etc based on size and I presume it also was an extraction but even so.....

Poor Kiba-Khan only has 3 teeth left, 2 fangs down the bottom and the left one at the top - strangely, it's the same 3 that Kai Ruki has left. I wonder if it's a Maine Coon trait, having bad teeth?

Nutmeg's would have been more as they would have had to use more of the anaesthetics etc based on size and I presume it also was an extraction but even so..... Nutmeg had four teeth out in the end and had the remainder scaled but not polished as they wanted her out of the anaesthetic as quickly as possible. She was put in an oxygen tent to help her breathing so that probably added to the bill. She also had intravenous paracetamol and antibiotics ( again presumably added costs) and came home with oral antibiotics. She had to stay with them for about six hours so they could monitor her heart. She had a follow up check on Friday for her mouth ( all wounds healing nicely) and is seeing our ' favourite' vet ( who by coincidence is a cardiologist) on Thursday and I think / hope these two appointments are included in the already paid amount. We were v worried on Saturday as the heart rate rose quite a bit but is gradually dropping, we know it will never be " normal " but as long as it stays at an acceptable level Nutmeg will be fine and we will be happy.
