I feel for you tonib its like seeing Beau all over again and how quick his lymph nodes increased in size. Like Osiris he was put on steroids and a pain killer. And eat whatever he desired. He too ( in a way ) took himself away to be alone. Sadly they say dogs do tgat ( guessing cats may be the same ? ) Feel awful talking like this , apologies Toni. Can you not shut him in for his 2 feeds ? Thinking of you and sending Hugs xx

Are you going to try the bone broth for Osiris tonib? It could help him eat a bit more. I hope his recent injections help him feel more comfortable. I'm tempted to try the broth on Bramble as she's not eating a lot of cat food, she's just going for the chicken or fish.

Very sorry to hear about Osiris tonibApologies for muscling in on the "other" side and I will admit I only skim read the updates - I just wanted to add that bone broth and kidney disease are generally a no-no (I think I read that Osiris had a kidney condition?) Alfie had kidney disease and I was advised by barley to avoid anything with bone (high in phosphorus so bad for kidneys) Of course if Osiris is sadly reaching his time anyway then it may be the case that it's worth trying regardless if it will help him to eat - but I just wanted to share the information in case you didn't know!!

Now I wasn't aware of that I put booms on it because its supposed to boost the immune system and he has been through a tough time and we felt it would help yes it improved his food intake but still having trouble getting him over 5kg he was 6 and wonderful at that weight but if its hard on kidneys its not worth that risk thanks for that info

When Alfie was healthy he would have been given bone broth quite happily by me! It's just with kidney disease when phosphorus is bad as their damaged kidneys will struggle to filter it out (healthy kidneys will do so just fine)

I'm glad that you let us know about bone broth and kidney disease @alphiemummy, as I was going to get some for my oldest cat Bramble, who is over 16 and going downhill slowly. Years ago I had a lot of problems with her getting urinary infections and when the vet did an x-ray he said there was a shadow on her kidneys. Like you say with Osiris, if it helps him eat more of his food it's a benefit.

Update 11/5/2023 - 21/5/2023. Well the eating didn't last long, he was back to picky eating again the next day. Although fchip shop fish did seem popular. We tried pilchard in tomato sauce, Yum but again not for long I managed to cut the lawn on the 12th & Osiris is still sleeping/resting on the lawn under the Phormium's leaves despite the grass being shorter. However on Thursday a dry day but not warm (at least not in a t-shirt & my washing wasn't drying quickly!) I stroked his back when snoozing & he was quite warm to the touch & I wondered if he was sheltered from cool air. A bit later in the afternoon he came out & laid on the lawn in full sunlight (what there was) & when stroked again he was still hot. So contacted the vet & managed to get an appointment at 5:20 pm (just an hour after I rang. We saw our old vet's son who started everything with the ultrasound last year but who we haven't seen (except at his dad's funeral) & he didn't think Osiris was hot to the touch but when he took his temperature it was elevated at 39.5, so at least I was right about that He checked Osiris for any abscesses (given Osiris's past history of fights & his personal experience of Osiris's vet visits) but none found, not surprising given Osiris's sleeping the days away! We chatted about decisions made & agreed that it was now a question of quality of life. He did class Osiris' teeth as terrible! Osiris needed antibiotics but they had just run out of the long-lasting injectable (Convenia) so he gave him the standard kick-starter Synulox & Osiris was booked in for another branch who had it in for Friday morning. He would have liked to have given Osiris Rheumocam (injectable meloxicam) to help with any inflammation but couldn't as on a steroid! Needs a month to clear out the system & he'd only had the injection the previous week. He also commented that Osiris had a full bladder & queried his toileting habits, but as Osiris is mainly outside I rarely see this. Obviously no toileting could be a sign that the tumour is causing problems. Well Osiris proved that neither was an issue on the journey home!!!! When Osiris came home he tucked into food again but that hasn't lasted long. 19/5/2023 the vet we saw for his Convenia injection knows Osiris well & but hasn't seen him since before the tumour diagnosis & he was really surprised at what he felt!!! Osiris was weighed & he was 4.2 so had lost 0.18kg from 10th May As other vets have done advised to watch out for any vomiting or diarrhoea. When he got home he had a little to eat & then hid for most of the morning in the top hole of the tall barrel scratching post before going out again under the Phormium. I bought some cod from Morrisons & cooked that for his tea which he ate but I bought some more on Saturday, pre-cut on offer from a different Morrisons & he was very picky with this but to be fair don't think it was quite as good as the first lot which was cut for me from a larger fillet (which had been sold out at this 2nd store) Pilchards again was more acceptable but both last night & this morning not for long. I think I might book him back into the vet to ask whether his teeth could be causing his eating issues as he obviously wants food but nothing I get seems to work, he does occasionally take the jelly/gravy out of cat food but leaves the pieces so I wonder if eating is painful. I might ask for a phone consult to see if it's worth the risk to have a dental which of course involves a general anaesthetic. If not then it doubt it will be long before we have to say goodbye I don't know if its worth waiting until Wednesday to see the vet who found & has seen the tumour increase in size (she's only in on Wed & Fri) or to contact the one who saw him Thursday who would be available earlier. However I don't think its worth contacting the emergency service today. Whatever I do/decide with the vets has got to be better as I think Osiris's QOL is rapidly going downhill. He's currently hiding in the bottom hole of the barrel climber. Fish & chip shop visit required but him & the other cats this afternoon/evening.

I hope that a dental is ok for him, and it gives him a better QOL.

It's certainly all trial and error with feeding Osiris at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the vet says about a dental.

Update 23/05/23 In the end Yesterday I decided to send an email to the vet detailing his pickiness & querying the options & asking for phone call to discuss :- Later I saw Osiris having just caught a mouse in the garden, for once he just laid on the lawn with it in his mouth, normally he would have brought it & let it go! He did let it go on the lawn but I'll post that story elsewhere. So not that lethargic! I didn't hear anything but confirmed today (phone call) that the email had been received. Later I realised that its a Bank Holiday this coming Monday & I'm out all day Tuesday so decided to book Osiris into see the vet sooner rather than have to potentially wait that long & managed to get 4:40pm today. He's now turning down any deli meat, home cooked chicken, tinned tuna (did have some yesterday & a very little this morning) & the pilchards. But sill wanted food!!! In desperation (after booking the appointment) I realised that I had 20g raw mince in the fridge to cook for me (tea tonight & freezer). Thought it worth a try, Well that was a success, not an enormous amount but better than nothing. He also came back in looking for more early afternoon. When I weighed what was left it was around 175-180g so he's had 70-75g of it. Took him to the vets & he weighed in at 4.4kg up 0.2 from Friday but that was different scales but at least it hadn't gone down even taking in to account the mince he'd had!! The vet thought that there was no sign of problems with his actual teeth or gums but just a lot of tartar & he'd seen cats eat with worse mouths but might be worth considering the dental. We discussed the risks which he considered high (as they have been before but still had one) but not that bad considering there is limited sign of his kidney disease. Checked his last one was 2/9/22 when they did exactly the same, blood test 1st & extra fluids (that was the day Kiba-khan was also having a dental lotsofcats) He's not vomiting & no sign of diarrhoea (difficult to assess the latter as he tends to use the outside rathe than a litter tray so not seen) which would be indication of the tumour restricting the intestine. We then discussed that he was down as having a bad reaction to Mirtazapine but I wondered if it was the dosage issue. The vet calculated that he should get max 1/8th a of tablet in 48 hours, & I didn't remember cutting a tablet into so many pieces. But of course he's difficult to pill. There is also transdermal version which is applied to the inside of the ear, quite often that has to ordered in I understand (one of Ajax's cats has it). The fact that he's eating some things means he's probably not nauseous which is not a good combination with an appetite stimulant. Just think about how we don't want to eat when we feel sick & what that would be like if pour appetite was stimulated at the same time!!! End result as there were 2 of us we tried the 1/8th pill at the vets, which was fine. Assess over the next 2 days & have a phone conversation on Thursday & depending on the result either continue with the Mirtazapine (possibly the transdermal) or do a dental on Friday but doing blood tests first to check his kidney parameters or anything else that could affect the risks. Other than meowing in the carrier more than normal on the way home, but I think that was the fact that'd he'd wee'd , there was no obvious bad effect. He went straight to his food when he came home & ate a little of what was there but that was old (the microchip feeder lid keeps it fresh) & he soon stopped but was looking for food. I did try him with some chicken but he turned away from that so I gave him some more mince. Looks like I'll be having something else for tea so that I've got enough for him tonight & first thing tomorrow & will pick up more in the morning. Of course he could have gone off that by then. At least he doesn't seem spaced out like he was before. I've searched & found that in May 2021 he was given 1/4 of a tablet yourpet.boards.net/post/164694/thread (although it was the earlier in the month's diazepam that was the most disorienting). So nothing more other monitor until Thursday.

I hope that things either stay on a level over the next two days, or improve.
