After the trauma of the weekend when she was so poorly, we thought she may not be here today but she's made it . To make a long story shorter, Nutmeg became suddenly very ill over the bank holiday weekend and had two visits and an overnight stay at the emergency vets. She was gasping for breath and her little heart was pumping away incredibly fast. She deteriorated rapidly and we were ready to say our last goodbye .......BUT thanks to a new medication regime she has recovered and sitting here with me now. We know our days with her are very limited but we are going to enjoy every day that we can. So......we are proud to say " Happy Birthday Megs, thirteen today!

Nutmeg would like to say thank you for all your kind wishes. She had a good day with a couple of extra treats and a walk around a country park. Well three of us walked, one of us rode round in her dog stroller just having a little wander and a good sniff every now and then . We were told on Monday she may have as little as a couple of days left to live but having seen our own vet on Tuesday, he was far more positive and said that with some new pills and a tweek of the medication she has been on for some time he thinks the condition is manageable. We know we only have a very limited time left with her and we will never let her suffer but while she can enjoy her life we will do everything we can for her. She is eating well and sleeping lots but the dog we have loved for twelve years is still there. She has competed at agility, achieved her KCGC awards, been a calendar pin up, appeared on local radio and been featured in Your Dog magazine. Not bad for deaf, rescue dog who was nearly euthanized at ten weeks due to severe illness! If she leaves us tomorrow we know we have done everything we can to give her the best life we could.

Nutmeg has certainly been a very special dog who has given back to you as much as you have given to her. I hope she can continue for longer on the new medication. Spoil her rotten and give her lots of love.

She is a VERY special dog and worth every penny spent at the vets, worth every minute we have spent nursing her over the last twelve years and worth every minute of worry. We are now trying to enjoy each day as it comes.

We have been for a check up this afternoon and the vet is really pleased with Nutmeg. Her breathing and heart rate are as " normal" as they will ever be and , after listening carefully to her heart, the murmur is not as severe as first thought. As she has responded so well to the medication one drug has been reduced already and another one added to the cocktail which should help ease the pressure on her heart. We thought carefully about giving her all this medication but she takes all the tablets happily ( she's such a good girl ) and we feel while ever she has such a good quality of life we will continue. The vet has also said she can exercise as she wishes - within reason- and that we should let her live as normal a life as she wants. All in all we could not have asked for a better outcome. Thank you to everyone who has asked after her. I would post a picture of the lady herself but as usual have no idea how to do so.

Thank you Pauline. This was taken just before Nutmeg's thirteenth birthday. She's the little redhead lying down with Ash sitting by her side.
