Healing thoughts desperately needed please. Little Nutmeg is very poorly again. She has some fluid on her lungs which is worsening her breathing problems. Saw the vet Friday, emergency dash to out of hours vet on Saturday and back to our vet this afternoon. Ridiculous though it sounds she is fine in herself - eating, drinking, sleeping well etc . The emergency vet said that " this little dog is going no where yet, she 's bright, alert and enjoying her life"......We have everything and more crossed that she is right. We knew this day was coming but it isn't making it any easier

Come on Nutmeg, you will be fine just like the vet said. I hope the vet can help get rid of the fluid on her lungs.

Sort of good news. Nutmeg's lungs are virtually clear but she still has to make extra effort with her breathing. She is in no distress and the vet has said to give the additional diuretics another few days. If this doesn't work he will prescribe a different diuretic in case her body has become " immune" to the present one. We are back to see him on Friday.
The practice has numerous vets and we were unable to see the one who has looked our dogs for the past umpteen years . The chap we saw was very good and I feel a bit disloyal but have booked an appointment with ' our' vet next week as I want him to see Nutmeg and give us an honest opinion of her condition. He has seen her through so many illnesses and he knows her almost as well as we do.
Thankyou for your good wishes.

Going in the right direction meandmine. Good luck with your usual vet next week. I can understand you wanting to see the one who knows Nutmeg's illness well.

Glad to hear things are improving albeit slowly meandmine. I know just what you mean about wanting to see the vet who has dealt with Nutmeg over time as he will not just deal with the clinical history but will be able to assess the reality of her current condition by comparison with his familiarity of her. It is exactly what I did with Roman, there was nothing wrong with the other vets in the practice but I still remember the time I took Roman in & a student vet was there & as student started the exam, my vet said "I know this cat well, he's not normally quite so placid ,there is something wrong" (not that Roman was a problem just was not interested in anything) & after a quick listen to his heart/chest, got him rushed for an x-ray which confirmed he had HCM & some fluid around the heart. He also gave an honest opinion of what was or wasn't right for his patient.

I can hardly believe I am writing this but we returned to the ' other' vet this morning, the same one who had seen Nutmeg on Monday. He took one look at her and said he could immediately see a difference ...the laboured breathing has all but disappeared. He did a thorough examination and said her lungs are completely clear and breathing back to " normal" ( as in normal for her ). She obviously remains a very poorly little girlie but no worse than she was prior to this latest episode. He s a very nice man and very kind and gentle with Megs, taking the time to say hello to her before doing anything AND accepting the slobbery licks over his face while he bent down to listen to her heart.
We will still take her to see " our" vet next week as we need to check to see if her lungs remain clear in which case we can possibly reduce the diuretics before they start to affect her kidney function.
Again, thank you for your kind wishes.

I have to share some very good news about little Nutmeg. We saw " our" vet this morning and he gave her a thorough examination. Her lungs remain clear ( so we can reduce the diuretics but have the option to increase again if needed). Her heart, breathing rates etc are stable and she is back to where she was before the latest " blip". He is seeing her again in May, at which point he will do the necessary blood tests to check kidney function and the like. Nutmeg wagged her tail throughout the consultation and is such a happy little dog it so hard to believe she is as poorly as she is ( no one has told her ). Thank you to everyone for their support, it means a great deal to me and helps me cope with the worry.
