Just got a phone call the adoption has fallen through. Concerns about location & a road. I'm going to see them either tomorrow afternoon (I've got something on but I'm double checking the finish time) or Sunday. I'm excited & almost terrified! Fingers crossed This is definitely fate. I wish you luck tonib. About to say the same thing Jenny lotsofcats 🤞 for you Toni xx

Well I went to the rescue yesterday. I had something on that was due to be 2:15-2:30 pm so said I'd be there between 3 & 3:15. Of course the earlier thing overran and I didn't get away until 14:57 but I contacted the rescue but in fact made by 3:16pm!! I was taken to the cats who were very shy, shady stayed in his igloo & Stevie was hiding between the igloo & the wall. Even with the (female) member of staff. The rescue gave me a packet of treats to help. Stevie became eager to get at them but still not moving from his hiding place Shady was much more reserve. Eventually they both emerged from hiding with Stevie pushing Shady away from my hand with treats or knocking the hand so they fell to the floor.!!! Shady did get his share though. I was quite surprised as my experience of gingers is that they are quite confident although may be wary. I think you Toffee was like that at first wasn't he lotsofcats? Shady did play with a feather wand but definitely at a distance & hiding if I stood up. Stevie was confident if here were treats to be had!!! Somehow his likeness to Penny was pronounced in that way! Shady is not a strong ginger colour like Roman but a paler fudge colour with darker ginger marble tabby markings as opposed to the striped of Roman. Apparently he's named after the rapper Slim Shady & Stevie after Stephen Gerard I wasn't sure about them, as the lack of confidence meant that I didn't see their personality. So I arranged to go back Sunday at 2pm.

This time when the male staff member went into the pen Shady came over to him immediately although Stevie stayed in the igloo. I'd taken some larger treats as Shady seemed to have trouble finding the small ones yesterday from my hand although he found them on the floor OK. They were a definite hit & I was able to stroke both of them, with Stevie jumping out of his bed at the sound of the packet!!
I also took a brand new (already had it) furry thick tail cat teaser wand. Shady definitely liked that & his personality shone through. Stevie wasn't interested, treats were his thing. But he allowed me to approach him without running away and stroke him. Shady enjoyed ear tickles, nose & back rubs putting head down & rear end up!!
This time I was able to see more personality and liked what I saw.
things don't go smoothly for these visits I took everything I needed in a long like shopping bag so I didn't have to worry about what happened to it & left my handbag locked in the car. However when I checked when I parked I found that my phone wasn't in either handbag or shopper (I left it at home - I knew I'd go it & other stuff ready & when I didn't see it in hall when I left I thought I'd put it in my handbag!!!!) so wasn't able to take any pictures. Although luckily there was someone at the open door to the rescue when I arrived as there is a problem with their bell & if no-one comes soon (i.e. seen you on CCTV) you have to ring their phone number. I could have been waiting a long time!! When I got home I found I'd taken it upstairs when I went to change my shoes & left it there!

Next step is a home check to be arranged. They are happy with the location (they googled it) but obviously they went to see if there are any dangers including my 2 cats!!! I know I've had that done to rehome Roman, but that was in 2007!!!! Penny & Osiris didn't need one as it was on a few months later in 2008.
What am I letting myself, Osiris & Lexie in for?!!!!

Hmmmm . Well for starters … another challenge l guess …. For 2 , a loving home , a dedicated mum to be whos only interest is to give 2 more cats a secure loving home ( maybe a cat pen like lotsofcats ) if thats what it takes but im sure if they become indoor cats you will manage . This was meant to be l think , good luck xx

I think your in for a lot of fun. Maybe it's just what they need, to help build their confidence having Osiris and Lexie to play with. I agree with scallywag, it's fate.

Glad you had a second visit and went armed with cat treats and a toy. Toffee took a while to trust me and let his character shine through. Did the rescue staff say how the cats ended up there? Would you change their names?
I hope the home visit goes well. You will have your work cut out getting Osiris and Lexie to accept them, but it will be rewarding.

I think your in for a lot of fun. Maybe it's just what they need, to help build their confidence having Osiris and Lexie to play with. I agree with scallywag , it's fate. Unfortunately I think Osiris & Lexie aren't the best to build their confidence by playing. Osiris has never played with other cats but has played with his servants at the same time as other cats have & Lexie's play is predatory, it moves she chases & if it doesn't move she pesters it until it does! However she is now 13.5 years old so maybe she'll think twice about taking on two 2 year olds. She'll also have competition with Stevie in the " those are my treats" stakes & He is definitely chunkier than her. The one I worry about most is Osiris as he's just short of 17 years old and the only other time he's been in the position of having another cat added to the mix was in 2012 & that was Lexie! As to confidence I think that's just a case of familiarity so will come with time so long as Lexie & Osiris don't turn on them, and in Osiris's case doesn't associate Stevie with all the other black cats that come through our garden that he's seen off/fought with & more recently come off worse with. However I've still got the room to keep them separate at food/sleep time as I do with Lexie, so at the worst I can manage most situations especially as they'll have each other. I really hope that they don't become indoor only cats (except as their choice) as I had 2 years of stopping Roman going out whilst Lexie & Osiris had free access. It's doable as I've always done in the past whether when caged for injury rest (Roman & Lexie) or in my hospital ward (dining room & conservatory combination) used for Roman's last 2 years when Osiris/Lexie/me were out, as well any of them if needed rest/injury recover but not cage rest. lotsofcats they owner became very ill & was unable to look after them any more. Apparently Shady was a bit wheezy when he came into the rescue so they both spent a bit longer in isolation. He's fine now. It was put down to the fact that they came from a (heavy?) smoker's environment.
