God Less America I wouldn't worry about Dutchess not wanting to go out. Some cats, especially after they have been spayed are naturally indoor cats, and only go out if they have to. My cat Bandit was like that.

God Less America I wouldn't worry about Dutchess not wanting to go out. Some cats, especially after they have been spayed are naturally indoor cats, and only go out if they have to. My cat Bandit was like that. 5.30am - she went out but didn't go too far, just for about ten minutes, it was foggy a bit and still not quite daybreak. But it is a good sign. The other thing is worming. I thought Joanna (Cats Protection) had said Duchess had been wormed but maybe I got my knickers in a knot over this because all the time Duchess asks for food and in the kitchen last night she was even trying to get at the cooking oil left in a frying pan. She's still quite slim but if she hasn't been wormed would you say she needs to be? I have heard cats are crafty too and you have to break a tablet up in their food for it to get into their system? If you try to give them a pill, they will 'know' and try to stop you giving it to them, is that right?

I would think that Duchess has been wormed. You could always give Joanna a ring to find out for sure. I have 3 cats that were strays and all 3 of them are very greedy and will always eat as much as they can. It's a survival thing from when they were strays - they didn't know where their next meal was coming from so would eat everything in sight - they do not grow out of it!!
I'm rubbish at giving cats a worming tablet so I get the vet to do it when I take a cat for it's booster.
Don't worry about Duchess being a bit reluctant to go out, she will go when she's feeling more confident.

Good news. She has been out a few times and doesn't stray and knows where to come back for her dinner. Last night she enjoyed some cottage pie! I am managing her food a lot better, not giving in just because she decides it is food time. And that brings me to another point - these new Oled TV adverts where you can talk to your TV now like Alexa and ask it to find stuff? The man's daughter tells him she is hungry so he asks the TV to look for the nearest Greek restaurant. Like she would want Greek food, just give her some Turkey Twizzlers you selfish man.

God Less America, Glad to hear Duchess knows where home is I can't advice on how much food to give her as I don't know how big she is. I have 3 cats, all going outside as they want so are relatively active, although they are slowing down a bit as they are getting older (14ish, 12.5 & 9), they all eat different amounts despite the fact that the 2 boys are more or less the same size. Roman (14ish) normally around 5.5Kg although at his last vet visit a couple of weeks ago he registered at 4.9Kg. Mind you the scales were misbehaving he initially weighed 4.2 until we rest the scales!!!! Hopefully that was just a blip on the scales as his blood test taken on the same day was fine. He gets 2 pouches of Felix & 34g oog Royal Canin Ageing 12+ daily over 3 servings. He is an above average size cat but not as big as Maine Coon. Osiris (12.5) is also 5.5Kg & is also above average in size but a bit leaner than Roman but a bit longer in the back. He gets 2 pouches of Royal Canin Renal moist each mixed with either a 70g tin of Applaws or a pouch of Felix over 2 servings. Lexie (9) is just short of 4Kg & is a much smaller cat in all dimensions except possibly girth although she's not overweight. She gets 1 pouch of James Wellbelloved moist & 26g of James Wellbeloved dried over 3 meals. They all get a little chicken last thing at night, a reward for coming in as we used to allow them 24hr accesss to the outside but now keep them in while we are asleep. The vet is happy with their weight. They do the occasionally get other treats of normal human food, Lexie really does like to help with plate cleaning especially if its had some dairy (yogurt, cheese, yorkshire pudding etc.) on it! However I am careful she doesn't get too much as a lot of cats can't digest dairy products well. However I'm very careful that none of them get anything containing anything with the onion family in it as onions are poisonous to cats.

Forgot to mention that when I feed my 2 Maine Coons, as they are both large cats they get more than the other cats. If Kiba-Khan asks for more food he gets it and Kai Ruki sometimes asks for 2 more pouches after he's been fed and I never refuse him any food as there's no weight on his bones at all!

One of the two cats my Mum has now is called Lexie. And when she used to show cats she had Maine Coons and Ragdolls. Main Coons and Ragdolls! Lovely cats. Does your Mum have any Maine Coons now? No just two moggies now. She also had seal points and chocolate points. I remember one was called Smudge and it was when we lived in Wrecclesham. He stole a whole pork chop off of Don's tray and took it to the corner of the room and growled if you went near him, do you think anyone would dare try to get it off him. naughty Smudge! But last night there was a problem with Duchess because in the back garden there is a fence that had blown over in the storm and she could get into next door garden so you know what cats are like I had to climb through to get her but once I got her I tried to pass her to Callum and she just went crazy and was struggling and growling but I did not panic and reassured her and I felt her little heart beating in panic but then when she knew I was going to carry her through just with me she was okay and I took her back into the house, she does know Callum and later on he held her and she was quite happy but fo you think it is a good sign that she only wanted me and nobody else she would trust to help her? It is like a good sign that me and Duchess are very good friends and she feels safe with me I think. I got her different Felix today, the meat box has got pork and ham and turkey I think and cod and plaice and salmon in the fish one.

I had to laugh at the thought of Smudge with the pork chop!
Seems that Duchess totally trusts you, which is good. I buy the Felix food with the pork and ham flavours for my cats too, but their favourites are Felix Sensations and Felix Doubly Delicious. Kai Ruki lives on Purina Gourmet Surf and Turf - because it is quite expensive, it's only for him!! Toffee eats anything and everything that the other cats don't like.

They are between 7 years old and the oldest will be 12 at Christmas. I only have 1 dog now and that's Kobi. Toffee was named Toffee because from the side he looks like an old fashioned sweet called a toffee swirl.
