So pleased that Duchess gave birth safely to 5 kittens and it's thanks to you that she was in a safe environment to have them. Contact the CPL and ask them if you can go and see Duchess - I don't think it would be a problem as she knows you and I'm sure it would be safe for you to see her and the kittens. Maybe it's a little bit soon to handle the kittens but she may be fine with it, the lady that Duchess is with will know. I don't agree with a cat being picked up by the scruff of the neck at all - it can be painful for the cat, especially poor Duchess being pregnant and heavier! Only kittens should be picked up by the scruff of the neck by their mother.
Do you know what colour kittens she had?

I could get someone with me to take some photos of the kittens. I will phone the lady later. I know the area maybe is just five miles from here. I am glad you think also it was not right to pick Duchess up in that way. This is how we do it, she told me. I didn't think it was right, it did not feel right.

Hello again everyone. I had an email from Pets Forum because it is my birthday. And I had not done an update on Duchess since she went away to have her babies, there were five, all of them have been found homes - one of my support workers gave me a photo scan but I had no idea how to upload that as an image but, I do make videos so it was easy for me to make this one.
So the Cats Protection looked after her and now she is officially my pet and has been neutered and she is settled in a place she knows and today she will be ready to mooch about outdoors.
I was not sure if she would play with toys but I bought her toys and a big scratch post you see in the video. I slowed the movie down so that it fitted the length of the poem I chose and here is some background to it.
The English poet Phyllis King appeared on four of the late Scottish humorist, harmonium player and all-round genius Ivor Cutler's albums, reading her own material. 'Uneventful Day' comes from the Velvet Donkey album, originally released in 1975 on Virgin Records.
An uneventful day No beauty touched my eyes I didn't gaze on blossomed boughs against March skies
Nor feel the warmth of winter sun Nor even talk to anyone
But late that evening as I sat reading I heard a daffodil break its skin

It's the best bit isn't it? Because she rolls over and looks up?

Thank all you good people lotsofcats tonib scallywag molly9 and I am sorry I never updated while she was away, I think it was because there was no news to tell. I was told to keep her in doors for three days after her operation so today was the day and even though the doors were open and it stopped raining she chose to stay in and is asleep right now in the place like in the video by her toys. She still has a big appetite for a small cat so I would like to ask how many pouches of "Oh, Felix!" a day is best? She has three a day and on Friday enjoyed some cod and yesterday I cut the driest part of a chicken breast for her which she had with some special cat milk - she is certainly not overweight but I don't want to overfeed her?

Also thank you for introducing a new poet to me I know that I am literal and things are either black or white but I think that it is sad that she has had two litters and has nothing to show for it. Do animals just adjust after this process and resume normal life because I think if I had babies I would want to know where they were if they were gone?

She still has a big appetite for a small cat My first thought was worms but I may be barking up the wrong tree here as not a cat owner

My Bella has 2 pouches of Felix a day & has dry Royal Canin Fit on offer I’m told the dry food is good for keeping their teeth clean, with lots of fresh water on offer she does get a treat of fresh cooked chicken or tuna every other day but on those days I’ll try to drop a pouch off, her vet did say on her last checkup she was slightly heavy for her frame 🤦🏻♀️ but did indicate her biggest problem was cat treats Bella demands them every time someone enters the house so cutting down on them has been tricky but as the vet put it dreamies treats are the equivalent of a doughnut to humans

She has been wormed. I think maybe three pouches isn't too much - it's tempting to give them something special and a bit different? Like tonight my dinner will be some turkey and ham escalopes with cheese and mashed potato. I told her earlier she could have something nice for supper. She has spent most of the day watching Columbo - there was a triple bill on - my problem is that I have seen most of them already!

Once a cat has been spayed they can be prone to putting on weight. When a cat has had kittens they tend to go very thin for a while. I feed my 4 female (and spayed) cats one pouch of food in the morning and one in the evening. I also put dry food down for them in the morning and some with their evening pouch. I give special treats such as cooked chicken, microwaved white fish and tinned tuna during the week. When I do this I cut down on the amount of wet food. I suggest cutting down gradually to 2 pouches a day with some dried food and her special treats. So pleased that Duchess is settling in God Less America. Don't worry about Duchess missing her kittens - apparently they don't!

Don't worry about Duchess missing her kittens - apparently they don't! Bit like my Dad then. When I was six he cleared off to America and didn't care about me. If I was a parent I am sure I could not abandon... agh! this is reminding me of the Pulp song A Little Soul and that amazing line where he says " I have run away from the one thing that I ever made and... I only wish I could show you - wish I could show a little soul"... so if you don't know this song, please try it, the words are so humble! So Duchess is on the thin side so I don't mind her having treats or a little extra - the other thing is why doesn't she want to go out? Seeing as how she used to be such an outdoor cat she shows no interest in going out anymore.
