I never insure them and hope for the best. A few people on the forum have said that they don't have pet insurance and put some money away each month for any vet fees which I'm beginning to think I should have started to do. My insurances now come to £103.00 per month and I know that when I receive the renewal for the other 5 cats the price will be more.

lotsofcats, Its a definite balancing trick, we're lucky we could afford big bills (well not too frequently) which as they are outdoor cats could arrive due to injury. However as they get older our pets do tend to need vets more often & unless the saving is started early in their time with us asit does take a while to build up you can get a nasty shock - however once it has a reasonable level its not too bad. We've always had older/rescue cats & some with pre-existing conditions which have taken us to the no insurance path but if we had a kitten then I'm not sure if I wouldn't insure it whilst perhaps building up a pot of savings.

Eek lotsofcats that's a lot of money for insurance when you work it out over the long term. I'm one of the ones that outs some away each month into a bank account and hopes for the best. So far we've always been totally fine when we've had to pay out for something thankfully. I do think that Mieze is going to have some sort of health issue come up as she gets older, she was horribly overweight when we first got her and it took aaaages to get her down to her current size, which still isn't wonderful, but by the time I have to pay out for that hopefully the pet savings account will be able to more than cover it so I can get on with worrying about her and not worrying about money and whether some cold hearted company will help pay to keep my cat alive. I can see why people choose to insure though!

Meant to say that your parcel arrived & Penny liked the first pouch she had - will try another in a couple of days. My parcel to you was posted today with some other moist renal samples in as well. Had my parcel thank you. Bramble didn't like the first one but ate the second flavour that I offered her. She loves the Royal Canin Renal Select so I will definitely buy some of that.

Received my insurance claim cheque today for Bramble. I had £502.02 after the £50 excess was deducted. I thought I was going to have trouble with them as I phoned them on Friday because they were taking so long - I'd put the claim in on 11th Feb.

That's great lotsofcats but a shame that you had to wait for almost a month. Do you think your phone call triggered the cheque?

That's great lotsofcats but a shame that you had to wait for almost a month. Do you think your phone call triggered the cheque? Definitely - when I phoned they hadn't even looked at the claim and the man I spoke to said he would sort it out that afternoon and the cheque was dated Friday the 4th.

Glad you have been paid out lotsofcats why do insurance firms drag it out for so long.Saying that,a friends dog is insured with TESCO,and has had quite a lot of expensive treatments and claims over the years, which were swiftly dealt with, they have been brilliant.I am curious so always ask about if and what a dog owners pet insurance they are with, and how they have found it, and Tesco seem to be one of the better ones.If anyone asks me,I tell them about friends dogs experience.Pet Plan doesn't seem to have the good name it once had, with pets owners having to deal with calls from abroad. We have had Skip for 12 years, and only made one small claim, but with an elderly though well pet,you just don't know what may be around the corner. One friends dog recently had a scare with Addisons desease, she is very well just now thank goodness. It's a disease I haven't heard of in a dog before, she is a 9yr old collie type and was desperately ill.

I ended up getting paid twice! I banked the cheque on Friday and when I got home I had another letter off Tesco Pet Insurance saying they had paid the claim by BACS! I phoned them and they said they'd cancel the cheque that I had banked. They didn't even say thank you for telling them.
