Not good news - the vet showed me the x-rays before and after the dye was injected into Brambles bladder and all was okay with her bladder - it's her kidneys, there's a couple of white spots (could be kidney stones) visible on both kidneys. The vet said he could refer me to a specialist vet hospital for a clearer x-ray/scan on her kidneys but I would have to take her to Bristol - I wouldn't put her through that again and she's not good in the car - she was very distressed yesterday and it seemed cruel to be putting her through these tests and examinations. When she came home she was wobbly from the anaesthetic and kept coughing. I offered her food but she couldn't eat for a while. The vet also did a blood test and I will have the results of this on Monday or Tuesday and will advise me then. Having lost several cats over the years to kidney disease I realise that not much can be done once a cat has it but it can be controlled for a while, I'll wait and see what he says. The vet said her kidneys are not enlarged and has suggested I take Bramble to him every 3 months so he can feel them and assess her. In the meantime I will buy her the Hills k/d food and make sure she drinks lots and spoil her rotten. tonib what was the flavour that I had off you before please? Bramble liked that one, I think it was the chicken. Bramble had a large round patch of fur shaved off her chest and because she is long haired it looks like a hole. I had to laugh at Blackberry's face when she saw it, she stopped in her tracks and stared at it for a whole minute. She was being affectionate towards me but I had a job and a half trying to get her to go out in the pen this morning - she hid behind the armchair in the corner so I had to drag out the large cat basket/bed and then the heavy armchair and when I grabbed Bramble she cried and dug her claws into the leather on the armchair and held on for dear life! When she realised I was taking her outside to the pen she relaxed. Kai Ruki picked up the vibes and he hid behind the cat climber which is wedged between a wall and the sofa so I had to drag that out and drag him out.

Im so sorry to read your latest update Jenny. I think your decision in not wanting to put her through anymore of an ordeal is a brave one and in my eyes the right one. Only you know whats shes been through as you see her day in day out and i believe your decision echos that. I hope she remains comfortable and things settle down somewhat for you all. I could just picture Blackberrys expression on observing a Brambles hole - they dont miss a trick do they! Take care
xx

Yes, fingers crossed for the blood results (((HUGS))) Think you're doing the right thing re not putting her through endless further travelling as it would just stress her out too much Hopefully a bit of management as regards her diet and medication will do the trick for a long time yet

So sorry to read about Bramble. I have not been up to coming on the forum. I can understand why you don't want to put her through the long journey to Bristol. Keeping fingers crossed for the blood test results. Calypso is still not right. Couple more accidents in the hall - right by clean litter tray. She is booked in tomorrow at 10.30 am for more tests. I think she is holding her pee so that can't be right. Unfortunately I have that two and a half hour dentist appointment in the afternoon so will pick her up afterwards. Terry's aunts funeral today. Thinking of you Jenny.

I was in work and my mobile rang but by the time I had dug around for it I had a missed call from the vets. I rang them straight back but the receptionist said the vet was on the phone so I left my work's number for him to ring me back. This was 4pm and I was dying to go to the loo but was afraid to go in case I missed the call! and no phone call by 5pm! I finished work and when I got home hubby said the vet had rung - I think that after he couldn't get me on my mobile he rung my home number. I really wanted to talk to the vet - hopefully hubby took it all in. The blood results were okay, just a high level of white blood cell count but the vet said this could be a result of being stressed (although I read that it's a sign of kidney disease too). So, I will do as my usual vet suggested and take Bramble to see him for a check up in 3 month's time if she doesn't show any signs of illness in the meantime. I've just printed off my insurance claim form to drop off at the vets on the way to work tomorrow morning.

Shame you & the vet missed each other lotsofcatsHigh WBC can be a sign of infection or inflammation as well. On the kidney disease forum I'm on it always something they raise inconnection with the blood results. From a guide to kidney disease www.felinecrf.org/diagnosis_cbc.htm it seems to say that amongst other reasons, yes it can indicate acute kidney injury but it doesn't sound like that applies to Bramble. I think you've definitely got the right plan. good luck with the insurance.
