Hatti has had such a loving 7 months with you, you done her proud, you never gave up on her x i don't know how you do it, but Im glad there are people out there with the courage and love to give to the oldies as its very heart breaking when the time comes xx

Oh no,so sorry to read this gillycat. It's a wonder our hair isn't white with what we put ourselves through with our pets. Our hearts go out to you as many of us have been through this heartbreaking nightmare, and is no easier when a pet is older.Try to be kind to yourself by knowing you have given Hattie your heart and done your utmost for her.We are told the last act of love we can do for our pets is to let them go peacefully, but it doesn't make us feel any better, and we always think we could surely have done more.

Oh no! I would have been at panic stations if that had been me. But as it has stopped bleeding and coagulated then maybe it's not quite her time yet. My heart goes out to you, Neil and the fur bunch. You're so brave taking on the oldies like you have. {{HUGS}} and a gentle tickle under the chin for Hattie. As for the blood, have you tried using milk to get it out?

Crikey that really must have been panic stations @gillykat but it sounds like you coped well. Thank goodness you'd been warned by the vet it might happen. I suppose its clutching at straws but do you think the bursting may well have released some of the pressure for the moment, i.e. rather like an abscess? Hope you can get a vets appointment in the morning & it goes well. As others have said most of us have had to make that final decision in the past & know its never easy but that we must do it when required. However many times you do it doesn't get easier & taking on "oldies" or ill cats as you do must be a strain on you both so take care & know that we'll all be thinking of you & Hattie. I must admit I would have thought Simple Solutions would have got the blood out - may just need a 2nd going over. What about distilled vinegar? Not heard of milk but worth a try - if it works we'd all benefit from the knowledge!

Hattie is ok and lives to fight another day Rang the vet as soon as they opened at 8.30and got an appointment for 9.10am. Vet examined her lump and said, as tonib said, it seems to have relieved a bit of pressure for now and as long as I keep an eye on it and make sure no infection sets in it should be ok for now. Hattie certainly seems brighter in herself....perhaps it was a bit uncomfortable yesterday as she did seem quieter....and has had her breakfast, her plate of butter * and is now sunbathing on the living room window
I'm going to put her back into the crate when I head off at work at midday but other than that I think she'll be ok out of it. Last night I was pretty upset when I spoke to Neil when I went to bed and we were prepared to let her go to The Bridge today if that's what the vet recommended but seeing the way she is....well, I think we'll have her for a few more days yet
* Not sure if I've ever mentioned Hattie's 'plate of butter' but what it is.....it started about a month ago: She was pestering us for some of our toast so Neil gave her a piece and she seemed to really enjoy licking the butter off. After that you had to do her her own bit otherwise you wouldn't get any peace to have your own breakfast Neil then said it was only the butter she liked so he got some butter on the knife and smeared it over a saucer and Hattie loved that It's now become part of her breakfast ritual ~ pill, cat food, plate of butter then wash herself and sleep Lily & Chilli don't get it, just our old girl - I doubt it'll harm her at her age and she really enjoys (and demands!) it so anything to make our darling girlie happy is all that matters
Thanks SO MUCH For all your support (((BIG HUGS))) Jeez...what a rollercoaster of emotion these oldies give you, eh! I told Neil last night that I'm getting a VERY young dog - I couldn't go through this with an oldie!!!!!

The simple solutions has got the majority of the blood out - it's more of a faded pink now and less like the den of a serial killer I'll give it a second go over later on. Neil said it doesn't matter about stains....that's what rugs are for, isn't it!
Never heard of using milk....wouldn't it smell? OR do you wash it out afterwards?

So glad that Hattie is still with you. Phew! you really went through it last night. It must have made it seem worse with Neil being at work and you were on your own. She's a fighter that one, god bless her. Milk is really good for getting blood out usually. I think the best one is full fat and I'd give it a bit of a rinse once the stain is out. I've used it on small spots before with good results but must admit, never used it on a large patch.

Just read this - so sad - you have given Hattie the best time of her life and all you can do is spoil her rotten for the time she has left. you and Neil have given her so much love and I know she has done the same for you.

That's exactly it Spider - I don't believe she's in any pain *yet* so we are just taking it one day at a time now and making each of those days VERY special for Hattie She certainly seems back to her bossy self and this morning I was woken from a lovely dream (I was helping Harrison Ford unbutton his shirt but let's not go there ) by a rather hard left hook in my face I ignored it and received another one a few moments later so I HAD to get up and give the girls their breakfast
She's now on the windowsill in the sun giving herself a good wash so there's still a lot of spirit in the old girl yet
