I've been a little bit 'concerned' about Hattie for the past week - thinking she was losing weight and that lump on her shoulder was getting bigger But you know how it is...when you see your animals every day you sometimes don't 'see' things clearly. But this lunchtime I just looked at Hattie and thought ''Blow it - I'm going to ring the vet anyway'' so I did and told the receptionist that I just wanted her weight checked and her lump measured. We had an appointment for 2.10pm and saw our usual lovely vet. She agreed that Hattie did look a touch thinner and when she weighed her we found her to be 2.75kg (she was 3.05 at her last check up) and that lump had grown too For months it has been 7.7cm but today it was 10.4cm and, the thing which alerted me this morning, it seemed to have a lump growing on it. When the vet examined her she found what looked like four 'blood blisters' growing on the surface and she reckons the tumour is now growing again
So ~ basically ~ we are now living on borrowed time with my brave beautiful old girl and it's just tearing me apart She still has an ok quality of life in that her appetite and litter tray are perfectly ok but the vet said that there will come a time when that tumour gets too bad and then it'll be time to say goodbye She couldn't give us a time span but I reckon it'll be weeks rather than months
So for now we are just going to treasure every single day we have left with her and are going to pamper her summik rotten....even more than we already do

Aww so sorry to hear this, but you have given Hattie an absolutely wonderful end to her life, she's been treated like a queen with all her stacks of blankets! You've given her a quality of life she just didn't have otherwise, and if it wasn't for you taking her in, she might not even be around now. I know it must be really sad, but I hope you always remember that your taking on older cats is absolutely wonderful and I do hope you consider doing it again. There isn't enough people looking out for the oldies and you give them such a wonderful end to their life. They are lucky to have you Now, please please provide us with looooads of lovely Hattie photos

Oh Gilly, I'm so sorry to read this, we all thought she would have much longer. As smilesbetter said if it wasn't for you and Neil then she probably wouldn't still be here now. We're all here to share the highs and lows with you.

So sorry to hear the disappointing news of Hattie @gillykat. She will have such a loving & care-free life in the weeks that remain with you, Neil & the girls and if she could she'd say how much she appreciates the care you've taken of her over these last months.
Besides giving Hattie a hug from gypsy, give her one (or more) from me & our gang and at the same time have a hug yourself.
Take care

That is sad news. If she only remembers the last half year she will die peacefully. Not that I want her to die, but it's unevitable

Don't ever worry - please - about talking about death or Rainbow Bridge etc.....I'm the one person who DOES know all about that It doesn't upset me or anything - it's just part and parcel of sharing our lives with animals, isn't it? As I said to Neil yesterday it's like the clock has started ticking on poor Hattie now that that infernal tumour has started to grow again and whilst I was really upset yesterday at the thought of losing her (amazing how the little horrors wheedle their way into your heart after even just a short space of time) today I am ok and focusing more on spoiling her rotten We always knew she wouldn't be with us for years and years due to the neglect she's had previously but just hearing it yesterday (weight loss and tumour growing) brought it home to me
Neil and I watched The Dog Rescuers last night anyway......it was an excuse to shed a few cathartic tears

Only just seen this, so sorry. What Hattie's spent of her life with you has been wonderful and she'll certainly have been grateful for it.
You're so brave taking in all the oldies, they really are lucky to have you!
Big hugs to you and Hattie from Millie and me. xx

Crikey I have just aged about 30 years!!!!!!!!!!
I gave Hattie her 3rd Felimazole just before her supper and whilst I was in the kitchen she decided to jump up onto the sofa. I walked into the living room and Hattie popped back down onto the floor and walked quickly towards me (or, rather, her food! ) and that's when I noticed BLOOD gushing out of her lump!!!!!!! It was all over the sofa, the carpet and my hands and for a second I had visions of not being able to get her to the vet before she bled out (Neil is on nightshift and has the car) but then I quickly grabbed a couple of clean tea towels off the ironing basket next to my desk and pressed one tightly against her side It soon became red!!!!!! So I pressed the other one on and that seemed to do the trick because the bleeding stopped It all just happened so fast!!!!!!!! Once I was satisfied the bleeding had stopped I left Hattie to eat her supper and dragged the 4ft dog crate out of the cupboard and it's now set up in the corner of the living room with her litter tray, food & water and deep bed of blankets which she is now quietly lying on. I then got the Simple Solution from under the kitchen sink and have put loads onto the blood stains on the carpet and left it to soak in.....hopefully it'll bring the blood out
I've just phoned Neil and he agrees the best thing is to leave her in the crate (she's settled down ok) and phone the vet first thing in the morning for advice. The lump seems to have coagulated ok, there's no more blood coming out - even to the touch - so I think it was just (as Neil said) at bursting point.....which the vet DID warn us may happen as it got bigger
Right....let's see if my carpet can be saved Poor carpet....since we put it down in 2006 it's been abused with blood, pee, poo, Neil spilling port on it, vomit, furballs.....you get my drift My next one certainly is NOT going to be cream....or light coloured!!!
