I have looked at the links and am confused. When I asked my vet about as fed versus dry matter, I don't think he understood the question so how can a mere pleb like myself work out what's what. To the hell with all this science, my dog is doing OK on Naturesmenu nuggets. Although now the new ranges have higher fat content I will have to mix it with other, lower fat foods. Oh the joy of owning dogs. Glad to hear Gypsy's doing OK, that must be some relief.

Do you think they carry on with the original Country Hunter nuggets? My usual pet shop only had the new ones when I went on Thursday. Might have to try Pets at Home. There a bit slow getting new things.

I asked the dry weight vs as fed and like you did, and I also think vet was uncertain what I meant! I will re-ask him when I next see him but he seemed happy with the as fed being 7% or below. Still not understanding it so going to keep going as I am with the as fed target till vet tells me otherwise. She will be having repeat bloods at some point in coming months which I hope will show improvement! She seems really good at the moment Its only the new venison nuggets in country hunter range that is 7% fat or below. Sort of sad to see the 4% range disappear altogether (they are not on NM own website anymore so assume discontinued)! Though obviously like to see the higher meat content. I am currently using up the last of the 4% nuggets I have. I plan on using the other nuggets in the range though as it will add variety into her diet even though they are 8 or 9% fat. Have you tried the senior fish and chicken? That looks to be 5% fat so thinking of getting some of that. I dont tend to give the ones with rice but obviously the chicken and beef normal range is lower fat so she might get some of those too!

I have tried all the nugget varieties including puppy (only 7% fat). The fattier nuggets are only fed as 1/3 or less of total daily ration. Guess I'm lucky that my dogs can eat rice so can have more options.
I too have the last bag of 4% CH nuggets. Booo.

Not sure if anybody remembers, but my Cocker Spaniel, Roman, suffers with Chronic Pancreatitis and I was always asking about diets to feed him. We now feed him Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Gastrointestinal Health. He gets his food split into four meals a day to allow him to digest more easily and is doing very well this way. Best thing for him - hopefully nothing changes! Hope you find the perfect food to suit Gypsy

Alfie was chucking up all night last night, took him to the vets this morning as he wasn't even keeping water down. They kept him in all day on fluids & ran bloods, all were ok except for pancreatitis test which came back positive. Vet said their in-house test gives them a yes/no answer as to whether a dog has it, and then they send away another test that gives them a score as such, that says how bad it is. So we have to wait for that until tomorrow afternoon. He had an anti-sickness jab as has been ok since he's been home. Eaten a little bit of dinner and been ok since then. One thing after another for him!! Vet said it may be caused by the steroids he's been on since his eye op

Sorry to hear this barley If it is thought to be medication related can they give him different meds that will not be as hard on his system? Sending you and Alfie really big hugs.

My vet said he wouldn't like to advise me differently to the AHT, as they would have chosen his meds with the eye op in mind and they're the specialists in that field. He said he will do me a print out of todays results, and the result tomorrow when it comes through, so I can take them to the AHT to show them and see what they want to do, as we have an appointment there on Thursday anyway. The vet said that usually it is extremely painful for them but Alfie wasn't showing much of a reaction, so either he is hiding it very well or it's very mild, hopefully the latter. He wasn't sick the whole time he was in the vets and has been ok since he's been home but they gave him a 24hr action anti-sickness jab so we won't really know how he is until that wears off tomorrow morning. He seems quite comfy & content tonight though. Ate his food and really desperate for more but vet said very little for tonight and then small frequent meals tomorrow. He is wanting to go outside every hour or so and is peeing rivers! I guess that's all the fluids he's had today. I don't really know much about pancreatitis. I thought it was caused by very fatty foods which he hasn't had. Yesterday he had Wainwrights senior dry for breakfasts, few JWB minijacks through the day and then more Wainwrights with some Applaws fish wet for dinner, which is all pretty usual for him. He had a couple of Akela lamb intestine chews in the evening and that was the first time he's ever had them so I wondered if it could be that as they looked & felt greasy, but I've since checked the pack and they're 8% fat so not too bad. But if vet says meds then maybe it's that I'm sorry to muscle in on your thread and I hope your girl is doing ok xx

Poor Alfie, he's been through a lot lately. barley its probably nothing that you've fed him. There are lots of causes of pancreatitis and certain drugs can induce inflammation such as Phenobarbital, Prednisone (steroid), metacam etc. As someone who has lost a dog to pancreatitis and nursed many other dogs through it, its an extremely painful condition and most dogs will not eat at all. So given that Alfie hasn't lost his appetite and has stopped vomiting, that's a very good sign!

Thank you scallywag I'll keep you updated X Thanks gypsy that's really good to know. He certainly has an appetite, he's just had another of teaspoons before bed and he absolutely inhaled it, definitely nothing wrong with his eating. I don't think he's really in pain either as he went to jump up on the sofa this evening - I caught him mid jump and told him he shouldn't be doing that! But I thought the fact he felt well enough to do so was good. It's prednisone he's been on since his eye op, so that's interesting.
