Thanks Smokeybear, that's good to know too! To get the overall balance, how many meals of offal do you feed a week? I think adding it to meals would work best for me at the moment, but that may change in the future. Petitfilous - I've seen pictures of chicken necks but still couldn't tell lol. That's fair enough lol. I will be doing the same once I've been feeding raw for a while longer I think.

Well I am not very anal about my feeding regime but I give one meal of tripe a week (ish), one meal of liver and one meal of "other" which could be lungs, kidneys, etc.

Oh, that's more than I thought it would be! But as you say, the overall balance is the important thing so that makes sense. I'll be bearing all of this in mind when I make the change and using it to find out what suits my two best. Thanks again

Think of... if your dog were to eat a whole rabbit... this is where the 80% meat, 10% bone, 10% offal proportions come from. They're the rough amounts that make up the structure of an animal.

I really wouldn't know as you never know what is actually in kibble which is exactly why I like feeding DIY raw, I know exactly what my dog is eating. Tricky one. Hopefully someone else will come along and have some advice. I feed kibble - don't you trust the ingreedients on the back?

Hopefully someone else will come along and have some advice. I feed kibble - don't you trust the ingreedients on the back? Sure it says --% meat content but it's a biscuit at the end of the day. I just don't like kibble in general, for many reasons... Kibble simply doesn't provide enough meat to keep a dog healthy. I found this paragraph and it's bang on in my opinion: "Most domestic animals are fed food that is more "natural." For example, reptiles typically eat whole food items like insects and vegetables. Chinchillas are fed timothy hay, and mice and hamsters typically eat corn, sunflower seeds, and alfalfa flakes. Dogs aren't any different from these animals; they need real food too."
Kibble is not 'real food' in my eyes.

It does contain a source of meat I'm sure - just in kibble form. I'm sure I read somewhere that raw get's clogged in the dog's somewhere?? Sorry can't remember where exactly. I don't see the point arguining about which form of food is better for the dog; we all have our own ways. Plus, Earl has eaten kibble all his life and, touch wood, he has been, and is a healthy little chap. He enjoys his kibble.

The ingredients aren't specific enough to include exactly what percentage of meat and what parts of the animal have been used. But that's not what this thread is about anyway. Petitfilous - the rabbit description you gave definitely helps me to picture the proportions a bit better. Thanks!

I know, but its easy to quickly change the subject without knowing, just from a single comment.

Ah, but we hadn't really changed the subject. We were talking about offal content in kibble as my original question was whether I should be giving my girls offal when I feed raw at the weekends. Because no-one knows how much offal may be in kibble (if any), it's hard to say whether they should be getting any extra during our raw weekends. It was just a passing comment

Ok then, let's not get confused about subjects, let's just BE on the subject now

I wish mine would eat raw, I've tried so many times. Those bowls look so appealing!
