luckily he hadn't, came about 4 & replaced the push button on the cistern (he'd come with that just in case) and re-seated the cable in the cistern. Will have see how it goes.
Proceeded to remove the floater bit and descaled the whole part and the bits it joins to . Success the float was not going up enough to shut the water off, so I now have a complete new set , unused in storage for the next time . Things get discontinued dont they so ....

What time do you head out for your holidays Monday x Piggies are fine -dropping them off for their holiday around 6 this evening 🐹 I’m ok thanks 🙏 scallywag just headachy , it’s hubby’s chest more than anything but who knows that sea air might do us good. he’s just coughing up loads of stuff off his chest. setting off tomorrow around lunch , will be back Friday. Xx |

Hope yours is ok now tonib ?Luckily for me I was able to lift the cistern lid (standard construct so not as big & heavy as the one you described) & adjust the mechanism so that it closed off properly. sounds like yours is the traditional ball float mine is a vertical column with an inner column, which rises when flushed & lowers as the water pours out, it just wasn't going down fully or slightly of skew. On the initial plumber visit he decided to replace the whole mechanism so had to return when he got the part but he'd also commented on the push button fixing which was possibly having a bit of an issue with the cable (this whole mechanism & button was fitted by another plumber when mine wasn't available back in June 2000) so it adjusted that. So when I rang to say it reoccurred he brought the replacement button. No extra charge just the initial call out & part.  Well done on fixing yours yourself scallywag |

chantel, sorry to read you are both still not well. I hope the holiday goes Ok & you return recovered & refreshed. With you away the rest of the staff will find out the pressures you take off them & have to deal with them. Hopefully they'll appreciate you more. fingers crossed the work situation gets solved & quickly.

tonib mine is the same as yours push and cistern empys then the tube thingy rises shutting the water flow off from keeping going down the overflow . It was not rising enough to stop cut the water off,. Mine seems to be in reverse to yours scallywag, the inner tube rises to let the water out into the toilet then when enough water has gone through (depending on which of the dual flush button is pressed) lowers down to stop the water going to the toilet while the cistern fills again, another part shuts of the water into the cistern at the appropriate level. |

We are on a weeks holiday this week, and was going to go fishing 9in my case camping) for a couple of days, but the weather has put the kibosh on that. Fingers crossed the weather improves for the end of the week and we can go then instead.   |
