I managed to vote at last. What makes some people think its acceptable to verbally abuse someone for voicing their opinion? I suppose if your hiding behind a computer screen you can try and act the big man. June.x.

Maybe a bunch of us (those who are willing) should email James on the issue?
I know in most cases we manage to sort the problem out, but we can't delete foul language and those posts will be there for a while to come where young people will see them.

Have voted now, wasn't able to earlier (me being stupid?) but thanks to Pawsforthought for explaining. I read all the conversation last night, was mortified. Agree that language needs to be moderated and no personal attacks. I know there are young users here but even in the 'adult' world there is no need for such language and abuse. I'm so glad that the young users on here, you know who you are ) are mature enough and more adult than jmk, you set a good example to all dog owners and are certainly more knowledgeable than a lot of other dog owners out there. Like others have said before it's a shame YP or YD (or whomever responsibility it is) does not moderate this forum as it requires, it seems we are forgotten about on here

yes i have to agree something needs to be done from reading all the comments and not having read the posting in question we are all here because of love of animals to share our pets ups and downs but when there is foul language used i think thats something that we dont need and should have to have to put up with i agree we need to use a softly softly approach but someone needs to say sorry for that posting at the least this is not somewhere i expected to find that kinda way of expressing an opinion

I find it quite disappointing that nothing (from what I have gathered) has been done by the YP team to have sorted the matter out. I mean, it has been a day or so now, and the offensive posts made by jmk haven't even been removed yet. I do agree, we need moderators. I think moderators should have the power to temporarily suspend a user, who is using foul language/bullying/ECT. for a few days and in that time, the admin has to access the situation - Jmk could have quite easily gone to other threads and kicked a fuss up in the mean time. I don't know whether I would volunteer or not, but I have a few members in mind who I would happily nominate

I think you have to remember that they work at an office for the magazine so probably don't do weekend. I'm not making excuses or saying it's right but that's probably the reason, in most cases?? Although it does feel like we are forgotten about during the week sometimes too!?! On all the other forums I've been on they have gotten a few board members to become mods to help with things like spamming and bad language. They have the power to remove spam and to remove bad language and to even lock a thread but not the power to ban people. They can obviously report certain people to the Admin people. I think it was two mods have to agree and they can lock threads. This would work if there were a few that could work together but you have to realise that not every mod can be on here all the time, especially for free!!

I find it quite disappointing that nothing (from what I have gathered) has been done by the YP team to have sorted the matter out. quote] I get the impression that there are no mods at all just James and his team, Sophie, Michael and isn't there another ? Anyways they are white collar workers Monday - Friday so weekends the forum can be a loose cannon as witnessed Friday night EDIT I have removed the quotes box sorry bectil my post joined yours as you rightfully pointed out further down

Do not know what when on last night, but if there is something you do not like ignore it and move on.
If it's bad language I would have thought this would be edited out automatically.
I'm against it because we all have different opinions which are good the forum. If ever time sombody gets upset and the mods move in how do you know which side they are on. Healthy debate is good.

This is why I think if forum members became mods they should only be able to remove spam and posts with bad language. And I mean swear words and insults NOT a healthy disagreement or debate.

This was not a healthy debate, it was a personal attack on smokeybear by another member who has deleted himself. He used very bad language, and was basically arguing for no reason, and it was a one sided argument, he was arguing with himself, and attacking smokeybear with bad language. Bad language does not automatically get deleted, the mods have to delete it. We could not ignore this argument as it was ridiculous and there was no meaning behind it.

I agree with everyone that we only really need light moderation, to remove things like foul language and spam because having posts like the ones JMK made lingering is not a good advert for the forum if a newcomer stumbled over there. walkiestime, it's not so much a case of people not liking something. JMK launched a very personal attack on Smokeybear and used foul language towards as well as encouraging other (younger) members to use the same kind of language if someone upset them. This is something that we shouldn't have to put up with on a forum that we all use to talk about and get advice about our pets. On any other forum I have been a member of, there has been moderator intervention to remove such posts and ban the offending members. We're not wanting to stop debates, we just want to have someone we can go to to have things such as spam or offensive posts removed quickly. We feel like we don't have this at the moment. However, you make a good point. Why doesn't this forum have a language filter on it? Surely it's not that hard to implement?
