walkiestime healthy debate is good yes, BUT.... telling someone they are a sad cow and to F off all the time is NOT on, I am not trying to cause an argument here as you say we all have our own opinions. A mod will only be able to edit out the offensive language, or lock a thread, delete if really necessary, nothing else would be able to be done. Go and read the thread from Friday night and you will know why we are all upset Thread by jmk called Try This

However, you make a good point. Why doesn't this forum have a language filter on it? Surely it's not that hard to implement? Once again several post appear inbetween the one I am answering so sorry if repeating you's LOL I must be a slow typer. I am off to check if sensored words can be added back soon xx

Haha you and me both scallywag! By the time I'd posted, PP and Gladys had posted too! Every other forum I've been on has had some form of language filter on it, so it's odd that this one doesn't, especially when it's a family themed forum.

Yes you can !! You type the word that is to be Censored in a box and along side that is another box where you type the replacement word like S**t becomes poo etc so someone can get admin to do that

I find it quite disappointing that nothing (from what I have gathered) has been done by the YP team to have sorted the matter out. quote] I get the impression that there are no mods at all just James and his team, Sophie, Michael and isn't there another ? Anyways they are white collar workers Monday - Friday so weekends the forum can be a loose cannon as witnessed Friday night One of the reasons why we definitely need a couple of moderators!

Even if they only gave some members mod rights during the weekends when they're not around to do it, surely that would make sense? Implement it on Friday evenings and remove it Monday mornings?

I certainly haven't, he never replies, leaves you feeling that you are not liked, and are a pain in the bum. Look how long it took to get the photo thread, and I have been asking for The Rainbow Bridge Poem to be made sticky on the Cat forum, like he did on the Dog forum. Waste of time, unless whats happened will make them sit up and finally take note I don't see there being any members being made mods in the foreseeable future, do you ?

It would definitely be ideal to have moderation 24/7 & have voted to that effect. However , I think there are a practical issues associated with this. If you want 24/7 then there is a cost associated with it, - either in having enough international moderators such that all waking hours could be covered including holidays/sick for free
- or in paying for people to do work shifts β costly for a free forum
Somehow I donβt think that wither of these options are going to happen so however this is done there will be no instantaneous moderation at all times. Taking that in to consideration there would probably been no way what happened could have been stopped as it was late on a Friday evening/night only the removal of posts subsequently but that would be helpful. This is a forum that is provided free of charge by a business (Bpgmedia) and as such must reflect their policies & procedures in the way it is managed . The thread that generated this poll I'm sure will not meet their criteria but if they appoint members as moderators who are not employed by the company then if there is any dispute about what those moderators have done then could there be business impact issues. This is something that they would have to be risk assessed. Assuming that Bpgmedia do allow members to be moderators, with limited powers, what are those powers to be? I donβt know what is recorded in the forum logs if a post is deleted or edited but unless a before & after are done then there would be no record for subsequent review by the company only a record of who & when a specific action was taken. Having looked at the Proboards support forum one suggestion is to not delete but move to an archive only visible to admins etc. which presumable could be recovered after review. There would have to be formal moderator procedures put in place regardless of what permissions are given. The question of who would/could be moderators from the forum has to be one for Bpgmedia although it might be possible for some sort of recommendations to be given to them in the first place by the members. As to word filters there are always ways around this we all know what s**t means is it any less bad language typed like that or bearing in mind the nature of this forum some words which could be treated as offence shouldn't be e.g. bitch. Such filters can be made on exact words or on containing the word think about Arsenal & Scunthorpe, which have been banned in early filters that used the containing option. However filters can be useful just used with care. Having looked at the posts on this topic, there are some members who have concerns about forum members having moderator rights on the basis that they might abuse their powers. If the moderators were carefully chosen across all areas of the forum then I donβt think this would happen but I can understand their concerns. I'm sorry if this sounds negative its not meant to be but to raise awareness of what this sort of decision could involve. If we want Bpgmedia to allow forum moderators over & above their staff/normal working hours we have to show we have considered the impact.

No, thank you tonib, that was a really helpful post It's such a difficult thing, and at the end of the day, we have no choice in the matter so we will just have to see what happens (if anything.) If emailing does not work, someone could post to their Facebook page to inform them that an offensive thread is just sitting here... causing offence? lol
