I always thought hydrangeas were pink or blue according to the Ph of the soil. Not sure what this pictures says about our soil! P1020963 by osiriscat, on Flickr and the blue is becoming a bit more pronounced on those with it on but they're still mixed on one flower head!!!! Some of the gardens round us tonib have dark red one,

Ooooh I like them!
Only thing I've planted so far is some wild flowers and plants in tubs to grow for my tortoise. They look pretty but once I pick some and put in his bowl he devours them so they must be appreciated

My pots are rubbish this year!!! Snapdragons are ok, french marigold are fantastic and my livingstone daisies are lovely but everything else is pathetic!!! I think I may just write the poppies, nasturtiums and others off and give the pots a clean out, replace the compost and have them ready for autumn bulbs to go in.

Not to me they're not Some things like the nasturtiums seem to have just stopped growing completely. Nothing's being left to dry out either as I water most evenings when it's been a hot dry day. I think for next year I need to change the compost, chuck in some fertiliser pellets and hope that works. I'm also seriously thinking about seeing if I can get an allotment as I could then get a greenhouse up and get my seeds started a lot earlier. At the moment I have to wait until all frosts are passed as I cannot start stuff on the windows in the flat as my hooligan cats would just eat them An allotment would also give me extra space to move tubs & baskets that were past their best from the courtyard onto the allotment to die down at their own pace (spring bulbs for example) and replace them with flowers that were at the best...or well grown young plants It's SO frustrating not having a proper garden as there's nothing I love more than having my hands in the soil I think I'll call into the council offices tomorrow morning when I finish work at 9am and see what advice they can give me. Hopefully there won't be TOO big a waiting list

I DID IT!!!!!!!!! Googled ''how to get an allotment in Alnwick'' and it came up with a page that you could print out an application form from so I've done that and filled it in and will get it in the post tomorrow morning. Frustratingly I just missed the last collection by 10 minutes....unless I was prepared to drive 20+ miles to Morpeth where there's a 7pm collection. I was fairly tempted as once I've made my mind up about something I like to put it in motion ASAP.....but I suppose posting it tomorrow for them to receive on Thursday isn't going to make a huge difference....I hope! Fingers crossed and hope my wait isn't TOO long. First Steps...

Pots may not be perfect in your eyes but they look good @gillykat Good idea on the allotment - mind you what wil the cats think of your absences - of course you could always take them with you in harnesses!!

@gillykat good luck to with the allotment, I've been thinking about saving up to buy one here (there's like €1,000 and you can have plumbing and electricity haha, they're ace!) although I travel a lot so not sure. Would quite like to have a bee hive if I get one.
I've been away for a month an a half really (well was back for a week in between) but only one plant on my balcony is dying. The tomato plants are all growing tomatoes, much bigger than the ones I got last year although the plants are tiny (got a propagator now so will start growing them earlier next year), the pepper plants are still growing but are looking great and the two basil plants and thyme are looking lovely. Also growing some orange flowers in a box which hangs over the balcony (and will be on the other side of the cat net when we reinstall it, using washing lines instead of string this year hahaha) which are looking fairly nice although seem to have past their best. Would like to get a few more boxes which go off the side for other flowers, to try and attract butterflies and things as the cats absolutely love watching them and attempting to catch them.
My peas all does, gutted, so I've emptied their box. They were on the floor of the balcony and Carlotta loves rolling about in the soil in that particular plant pot so I've just left it there full of soil for her haha. Hopefully next year I'll finally get a good crop of peas, third time lucky? Also got an olive bush this year, bought a pre-grown one. Not sure when it will fruit, of it will at all this year. I'm not a fan of olives but my man is, and apparently the leaves are good for you too, so it's more of an experiment haha. If it fruits, great, but if not then it's no big deal.

My gardens a reet mess. I really should move my fat bottom and get it sorted out, but the cats run takes up so much room. Well that's my excuse anyway. I might start it tomorrow if I can be bothered. June.x.
