lotsofcats, how do you keep your dogs away from the vegs? I would like to grow peas and other things, but Alfie is likely to go over and wee on them I've spoke to my parents about putting a nice fence up to keep the dogs away from the plants, but they didn't seem too keen on the idea My pumpkins and cone flowers are doing good, but the rotten slugs have eaten ALL my wild flower seedlings. Not happy! - I put copper coins around the edge of the pot, yet the so-in-so's still managed to eat them We have pots of flowers all around the edge of the vegetable garden and this keeps the dogs away from the veg and looks nice too. I love cone flowers, they are one of my favourite flowers and they last for such a long time when they come out. Here's a photo of one of my lupins, another favourite flower - this is in a pot on the corner of the veg garden.

You want to grow Bleeding Heart from seed? I googled it and came up with this... voices.yahoo.com/how-propagate-bleeding-heart-seed-11517032.html Seems a bit of a faff on....I've always just bought them as ready-grown in pots or those bags of compost with the root segments in (from the £1 shops ) which you stick in the ground or pots and they just start growing themselves in the spring It is Dicentra spectabilis we are all talking about, yes? Mine, ironically enough, gave up the ghost the other week...when I examined it I realised it was rotten at the base and when I dug up the roots they weren't much better so it's gone to the great compost bin in the sky and I've replaced the soil in the container and planted loads of Calendula (port marigold) seeds for the bees and butterflies Yes it is Sounds all too complicated! I like seeds that I can just put in some compost and hope they grow That's a shame, though the bees and butterflies will thankyou for the Marigold

Anyone know how to prune Broom shrubs? I've left it a tad late, seen as they've finished flowering a few weeks ago, but I need to prune one shrub now, else it'll start taking over. I've read you prune the flowered stems back half way, and not to prune the woody stems, else it wont grow back as well. I have the urge to just prune it hard, but I would still like a living plant

Sorry for the super late reply, tonib! Thanks for the links I ended up just cutting the main stems back by around half - it's got two chances! How rude of me, sorry lotsofcats for not replying! I thought I did, though I have a habit of starting off replies, then end up leaving them (that's why I'm usually slow responding). Wow, them Lupins are BEAUTIFUL! There has certainly been a fantastic show of them this year - seen them every where, and all seemed to look thriving There are certain things in the garden that Alfie seems to like to toilet on, like one pot in particular and the agility jump cones.. though no doubt he'd still wee on things I'd grow, like beans, ECT.

Sadly there was some heavy rain today. The garden needs it but it was heavy enough to batter down our most prolific rose bush - hopefully it will recover when it dries out. Although as its supposed to be dry tomorrow morning (only) I'll see about staking it up. Mind you it was already a bit top heavy & bent over as you can see fron this photo taken a week ago. Its "Crocus Rose" seen at the front with Jude the Obscure (slightly more yellow) behind it to the right. Crocus Rose 20140617 P1020858 by osiriscat, on Flickr Things are growing extremely well this year - we have Campanula lactiflora 'Prichard's Variety' planted amongst the roses & its defined as No one has told ours - they're well over 75cm! How tall 20140622 P1020929 by osiriscat, on Flickr We have a another lovely rose "Platinum Beauty" which was an end of season bargain at the garden centre - its done extremely well since we got it. Its got a lovely shape as a bud & flower & glossy leaves. Platinum Beauty 20140622 P1020931 by osiriscat, on Flickr

The first of my Livingstone Daisies flowered yesterday My dad always grew these and I always associate them with my childhood but this is the first year I've ever grown any. Got lots of healthy fat buds on them so give it a few more days and the two containers with them in should be positively glow-in-the-dark neon bright

I always thought hydrangeas were pink or blue according to the Ph of the soil. Not sure what this pictures says about our soil! P1020963 by osiriscat, on Flickr and the blue is becoming a bit more pronounced on those with it on but they're still mixed on one flower head!!!!
