Oscars teeth are not what I want them to look like. They arent terrible by any means, but he has little build ups of plaque-y tarter-y stuff along the gumline of the tooth. Canines and front molars are the worst.
He gets raw bones daily, he has stag bars, chew toys, carrots, kongs etc. But he still has this problem.
It originally came about because of awful treats, but he no longer has those. He doesnt get sugar filled crap, he's on a good diet and he gets plenty of chewing opportunities so I just cannot understand why this is an issue.
I've tried teeth brushing, not for very long though, so it never helped.
I've heard seaweeds help and I have been looking into adding it to his diet anyway, but I wanted to know if anybody had sucess it?
Or do you have any ideas of what I can try.
Its annoying the hell out of me. I was stupid enought to use the crappy kibble as treats and now look whats happened!

I found the CSJ mix has helped big mutt to have better looking teeth. Therefore for some dogs it does seem to help. However the younger one has awful build up especially for her age! I am considering uping the dose however she also has BNM which also contains seaweed so in theory that should help too!! Been lax with the tooth brushing too . I must do better!! (Have logic gel and virbac paste in house so no excuse)

Before we had him, Bryn had been fed on all sorts of crap and, as a result, had plaque and cruddy deposits on his (back) teeth. We were reluctant to take him to the vet to have the teeth cleaned and polished as this involves a general anaesthetic. So, we have been using CSJ Seaweed & Parsley added to his food. This stuff is astonishingly economical and really has brought about a considerable reduction in crud and plaque on Bryn's teeth but has not rendered them immaculate like his front teeth. (CSJ food might not be much cop, but the tooth stuff seems to work). Admittedly he has been having stag bars ever since we had him (but not bones) and these will undoubtedly have helped. We are now just starting to use Plaqueoff instead of the CSJ stuff to see if it is any better - or worse.

Bextull I have same thing with our Babs! One or two dirty patches towards the back of her mouth although they do look much better than they used to when I fed natural instinct so the bones are sorting it out to some degree. Pork ribs seem to do the best job of cleaning. However I have today got some logic gel so lets see how that goes. Hopefully it might help a bit for her back gnashers. Will let you know. Just starting out by putting the gel on my finger and letting her lick it off until I get her used to that then I might attempt the finger brush if needs be. On the other hand kidders gob is beautiful! He used to have a tiny bit of tartar on his canines until we went DIY raw a year ago, at which point it got sorted very qyickly with the bones. Have thought about the seaweed but not tried it, had you tried logic gel before?

I was looking at plaque off, but at €17 for a little tub I was very unsure.
Never used logic gel, but I have heard its good. Oscar loves the current toothpaste, but its baking soda based and not an enzyme formula one so its not brilliant.
I have a giant bone in the freezer. Its for saturday so we will see how it works. It is huge, so if it dont do it then nothing can!!!
There are lots of things I could try, but I cant order online. Its so annoying as it means I cant get grain free dry food for treats either. I've been confined to non-internet puchases unless necessary (like a new collar.......)
I'm off to Dublin in 2 weeks, so I can get my uncle to take me to a petshop there who have nice stuff (raw food too, so I'll have a cooler box!)

I've used the CSJ seaweed stuff too and it did seem to help initially, but I found the effect has wore off over time and they've still got a build up.
However, since they've been having raw bones etc. I've seen an improvement in Pepper's teeth. Hers were slightly worse than Ellie's, and her canines in particular had quite a bad build up of plague on them. But when I looked yesterday, it's slowly going. Considering they've only been properly on raw since last Thursday, I'm impressed. I've heard that something like lamb spines and chicken necks are perfect for cleaning teeth because of the way the bones are - can you get anything like that as a natural option?

Have a look at Dog Dental for a selection of products you can look at before going to the petshop. The vet recommended Logic for our cat who has had to have dental scaling a year ago -unfortunately trying to clean his teeth is a no-no - he really doesn't take to having his mouth fiddled with. They then suggest Plaque Off. Found it strong smelling for our fussy cat!! However ave heard goo reports on the Logic if you can clean the teeth. We got Osiris at nearly 2 from the rescue with gingivitis & he had the scaling under anaesthetic 4 years later. He came with another cat (Penny - now 14) from the same home. She doesn't have gum problems but has lost quite a few teeth before she came into the rescue, so suspect there could have been an issue with dental care/food/treats at their previous home. Good luck in finding a solution for Oscar. P.S. Not necessarily recommending that website - jsut one that listed a variety of products.

Plaque off is very good. Monty had terrible breath and his teeth weren't great and when we started using it we noticed a great improvement in both. My family forget to use it though, so doubt he's still having it :/

Used to use Plaque Off on Skip,I used to pay around £10 for a small tub,but the measure is tiny and it lasted for ages.I thought it was good, but have been using Logic Gel for ages now,and think it's brilliant. I also think some dogs are more prone to plaque build up than others, as when we had two dogs,I cleaned their teeth each day,one dog had great teeth, but the other had to have hers cleaned each year by the vet.

I reckon you are right regarding some dogs being more prone than others! My daughter has a rescue BC (she's had him for some years now) and when she took him on he'd been abused and fed rubbish kibble (probably even more rubbishy than Bakers!!) but he had, and still has, absolutely beautiful teeth: ALL his teeth are sparkling white and they stay like that with no attention whatsoever (but he does have bones).
