So sad that both litters are affected & its both mums that had the infection. I do hope that Poppy's litter pull through now that you know what the problem is. Lets hope that someone catches & neuters the tom that passed it on to them both before any more litters suffer. Also will Shelby & Poppy now/soon be clear of the viral infection so that there is no danger of them passing it on even though they will be neutered? On a slightly different note it probably implies that the 2 litters had the same dad so I wonder if that had any bearing on Poppy taking on Shelby's litter? fingers crossed for the kittens & all involved in looking after them pixiepops

That is so heartbreaking. The little ones couldn't fight the virus. RIP kittens.

That's so sad, I hope Poppy's four are now able to fight this virus. And I agree with spider, you didn't fail them, you gave them the best chance they could have had. Sending you {{HUGS}} and thinking of you.

Early this morning one more wee kitten left us for the bridge. They are still being given antibiotics. Vet is more positive this time and feels the remaining 3 will make it through. It now turns out that Poppys milk is completely dried up now so hand feeding the 3 remaining babies. Shelby and Poppy will be completely cleared of the viral infection in the next 3 weeks according to the vet.
Shelby is off to vets tomorrow for check up and to be booked for her spay. Poppy will be booked in for around the same time as long as everything goes well at her next check up.

That's such a shame. I hope your vet is right and the last 3 make it.
Your doing a fantastic job, as heartbreaking as it is.

Sorry to hear about the kitten, but glad the vet is hopeful for the other 3 & that the virus will have run its course in the mums soon. Oh dear more hand-feeding, how frequently are they fed now?

How sad. Fingers crossed for the remaining three. Can the milk have stopped because of the virus?

Sorry to hear about the loss of more kittens, but glad to hear you now know what the cause is and can actually treat it. Hopefully now the remaining kittens are being bottle fed and on antibiotics it will give them a fighting chance.

Hello everyone, further update. I meant to reply sooner but we have been run off our feet with everything. So havent had a chance to properly sit down. Poppy is doing well. She is eating and building her body weight. Sadly we lost another kitten yesterday morning so we have only 1 remaining kitten. Vet has said as this one doesnt have the symptoms the others had she has a far higher chance of survival. My hopes arent set high though (as awful as that sounds) but I just dont want to get my hopes up for them to be shattered again. Sapphire (ragdoll) is doing well. Her earmites are now completely cleared so we will be moving forward with getting her booked in to be checked. Shes already had her vaccinations and is now flea, worm and earmite free so next step is spaying and chipping. Then focusing on building her confidence and getting her re-homed when she is ready. Shelby started to show symptoms of the illness the kittens had. She was given antibiotics and is now on the mend. Once she has been given the all clear we can proceed with spaying and chipping and getting her ready for re-homing. Mittens is still being very unsociable. Vet has not found anything medically wrong that could be the cause and has stated that it could be behavioural issues that she has. A lot of work will be needed to be done with her, a lot of interaction and working out where she will stand in the way of anything she will need, what type of home she can go to, etc. I wish there was better news but hopefully in a couple of weeks time things will be a lot brighter and we will have some happy stories about the cats and kitten.

Sorry to hear that you now only have one surviving kitten, fingers crossed for her. pixiepopsGlad that Poppy, Shelby & Sapphire are improving & ready or nearly so for spaying. Now it could be my memory but I don't recognise the name Mittens, a new cat or just a new name? No wonder you haven't had time to update us until now, hope things relax soon for you.

Such a stressful and sad time for you, but you are doing a good job. I hope that the one surviving kitten will pull through. Good news that Poppy, Shelby and Sapphire are improving. Poor Mittens - I hope that she can learn to trust you all soon. Keep up your good work.
