Another update Poppy and babies are doing fine and the fantastic news is that we have been able to successfully introduce 2 of Shelby's kittens to Poppy for her to feed them. Sadly Shelby is no longer wishing to be near her kittens which are only days old, so we were hoping to use Poppy as a surrogate. Thankfully she has accepted the 2 smallest kittens from Shelbys litter. The other 2 little ones are still being hand reared. Poppy is being a fantastic mummy to her kittens and her adopted kittens. Sapphire (the ragdoll) is coming along very slowly. She is still hiding and trying to give her her medication is proving extremely difficult. She is cowering and wets herself if you try to approach her. I cannot begin to imagine what this wee soul has been through A cat is not this frightened for no reason. Hopefully once she realises that she is safe in her fosters care she will come out of her shell. She still needs to put on a good bit of weight before she can be spayed though so long road ahead of us.

Glad that Poppy is helping you with two of the kittens. And very sweet too. However do you give Sapphire her medication. In her food? Poor frightened kitty.

No the medication she needs is for her ear mites as she has a really bad case of ear mites. Also her flea tab and worm tablet was very tricky to give her. The wee soul just hasnt had the best of times but hopefully we can have her giving head bonks and purring in time

Glad to hear Poppy has taken to 2 of Shelley's litter although sad Shelley won't go near her kittens. Hopefully Poppy & the hand-rearing will keep both litters well & turn them into lovely cats with forever homes. Poor Sapphire, hopefully with time she'll learn to relax, its unfortunate that her first contact with caring humans is when she needs medical treatment which in itself usually is not appreciated by cats. Good luck with the medication process pixiepops

Another quick update for you all Well Poppy is now surrogate mum to all 4 of Shelbys babies!! 2 of the kittens were still being hand reared, however, Poppy took it upon herself to remove them from the warm bed they were in and put them in with her own kittens while they were being fed in turns

Oh that's brilliant news. She's such a good mum. It won't exhaust her having 8 little ones to feed though will it, and is she producing enough milk? Will you still help out with the feeds still? Sorry so many questions.

That is good news pixiepops. I was wondering the same as cazypops. I suspect that they smelt the same as the 2 she originally fostered so thought they were hers as well.

cazypops She is producing enough milk which is great, we are concerned about her health and how feeding 8 kittens may be a strain, so we will still be hand feeding (if she allows us to) the 2 larger kittens that she has taken under her "fur" so to speak lol tonib Not sure why she done it but it was quite funny as she looked a little grumpy as though we had taken 2 of her babies and it wasnt allowed Shelby is now being kept separate from the kittens as she really is not liking them at all. Got an appointment for her to see the vet tomorrow as well as it appears her milk has dried up despite only giving birth approx. 8 days ago. It may be one of the reasons why she wasnt wanting to feed them, I suspect it may have been sore on her. She is sadly in heat again so we will need to book her in to be spayed and chipped in about 2 weeks time but we can start her vaccinations. She already has had a bit of interest from a lovely family so as long as everything goes well she will potentially have a new home We still have 2 weeks left of searching for her owners, however, where she was found is a notorious area for cats being dumped but we are holding out that we will hear some good news from someone. The vets in the area have been contacted with posters to pin up in their surgeries so there isnt much else we can do now. We have her listed found on the website, on our facebook and twitter, our foster has done a leaflet drop in the area and plans to pin up posters in shops and now the vets have been contacted with the posters. So fingers crossed

It's good that you are still giving her some help, even if it's just during the day. I'm sure that she will be glad of the help, especially when they start getting a lot bigger.

Oops, somehow missed reading about Poppy adopting all of Shelby's kittens - what a super Mum she is! So funny that she went and collected the other 2 of Shelby's kittens.
Poor Sapphire - I wonder what the poor girl has been through to be that frightened.
Pleased that someone is interested in rehoming Shelby.

Very sad update for you all Sadly 2 of Shelbys kittens have crossed to rainbow bridge. The 2 smallest kittens from her litter that we had successfully integrated with Poppys kittens One of them had to be given cpr and wrapped in heat blankets yesterday. After which he appeared to be fine and was okay the rest of the day. This morning however it was found he had crossed to rainbow bridge sometime during the night Shortly after one of his siblings also crossed over, she, along with him, were the 2 smallest kittens of the litter. The other kittens were much bigger so we think they may not have been properly developed or mum cat has suffocated them during the night. We are now on high alert and will keeping a very close eye on mum and remaining babies.
