Such sad news about the 2 smallest kittens of Shelby's, bless them, poor babies. The other 2 will stand a much better chance of surviving as they were bigger. It will be easier for Poppy to ensure they are all feeding with 6 kittens to manage.

A third kitten from Shelbys litter has now had to be wrapped in heat blankets and given cpr. We are now wondering if it is something that has been passed to them during pregnancy. I had another lady say it could have been accidental suffocation by mum cat lying on top of them. The wee one seems to be okay for now but im not holding out much hope for him I hope he proves me wrong and lives on to be a fighter. I think she knows, she hasnt been looking for them at all and doesnt appear to be missing them. Cannot begin to explain how gutted we all are. The sad side of rescuing

Oh dear, maybe there was always something wrong with them and that's why she abandoned them in the first place? Hope this wee one pulls through.

Regret to inform you all that the third little one has now gone Only one female remains from the litter. smilesbetter Shelby had been straying for a number of weeks before anyone contacted a rescue to get her help. It could be a number of things including her not eating while straying or she was eating but not enough or the right foods

How sad. You and Poppy did all that could be done. Fingers crossed for the third kitten.

That's such a shame. At least you know you did everything to give them a fighting chance, but it just wasn't meant to be.
RIP little guys. {{BIG HUGS}}

Sorry to read about the 3 kittens pixiepops, fingers crossed for the 4th. It does sound like something was wrong with the litter & maybe that is another reason (assuming that the human handling contributed) why she didn't want to know once they & her were safe. RIP little ones

All 4 kittens are now gone Early hours of this morning the 4th wee kitten started to go downhill, tried what we could, kept her going for just over an hour but sadly wasnt meant to be Vet has been out tonight to see the other 4 kittens (poppys kittens) as they too are now showing signs of going downhill. Been told it is a viral infection that Poppy has which has which sadly with their small systems, is slowly killing them. They have been given antibiotics and liquid to help hydrate them. Back to hand feeding to ensure these wee ones have a fighting chance at survival. The kittens that came from Shelby were also infected with the same viral infection but the vet has said it didnt come from Poppy it was from Shelby. He said it could have been given to the mum cat from whichever tom cat had gotten to her. Both cats were from around the same area so chances are it was the same cat. Next 24 hours is critical. Vet is on standby if needed.

Very sad time for you.
Makes you wonder though if the mum abandoned her kittens because she knew something wasn't right?

zahada We are now thinking that maybe the case. A mum cat is always aware there is something wrong Thank you scallywag spider devastated is an understatement. We are all in shock and just feel like we have failed them. Hopefully onwards and upwards from here.
