Hahaha funny how a day can pan out, isn't it! Only a few days ago I was saying that the next beastie to come through our door would be of the canine variety, not feline...yet my Sneaky Husband has managed to get his own way once more
The morning started off as planned: breakfast then a couple of hours at Boulmer beach before heading back home to do housework (me!) and fit a wider shelf to our living room windowsill to make it more spacious to stretch out on for Chilli (Neil). After we left Boulmer though Neil said he wanted to go to the car parts shop in Amble. I agreed, thinking I could grab a chance of a quick birdwatch off the harbour to look for the Mediterranean Gull which winters at Amble (every year since 2007, he/she wears a red darvik ring YJU7). Anyway, I popped off to the post office to pay the rent and said I'd meet Neil back at the car (looking around a car parts shop is not my idea of fun). Half an hour later Neil returned to the car and said I had to come with him because Linda had started another animal rescue group and had an old cat needing fostering So we walked back around to what we always referred to as the Cat Rooms (actually a house on three floors with a shop downstairs and top rooms as places for cats in need of homes) and it was WONDERFUL to see Linda again She retired from running PARRT after 30 years a few months ago and said today that she'd just got fed up of the way certain members of the committee had started to form cliques and take over Anyway, she's now started this new rescue group called Pet Support and is raising funds from her shop. She's hoping to get a few photos up on facebook soon as she has a few very handsome cats in need of new homes.
But the one we are caring for is a female, black & white, must be in her teens and has an ailment or two needing treatment. Just like the olden days again One day I really must do a post about our fostering days and all the wonderful cats who came into our lives.
This new girl, Hattie, is thought to have hyperthyroidism and is on Felimazole ~ 2.5mg pill in the morning and a 5mg pill in the evening. She has to go for blood tests week after next and also the vet will see if they can suss out what the big lump on her right shoulder is. It started off as a soft lump but has now hardened Linda said it may result in amputation of the leg BUT, depending on what the vet says and it not being painful to Hattie, she may just leave it and let things run their natural course (ie why put an old cat through a major op if it only means a few extra weeks of life). Watching Hattie closely as she explored the house I have an inkling she may also be deaf! When we got home just after 4pm we let her out to explore the flat (Chilli and Lily being outdoors) and she had a pee in the litter tray and then INHALED a small amount of gourmet food that I put down for her!!! She's very very thin and you can feel her bones when you stroke her but has a very greedy appetite (typical hyperthyroid!) so I'll be feeding her little and often. She's VERY chatty too and follows you around....including being fascinated by Neil when he went to the bathroom She's now fast asleep on the sheepskin rug in front of the tv.
Lily and Chilli have seen her and are Not Impressed Hattie hissed at them and stalked off and The Girls retired to the bedroom to decide their next move. They're both now sulking on our bed next door with occasional quick peers around the door It's been quite a day for Lily.....she caught her first vole, ate it's backbone and now has a new Big Sister.....or should it be more of a Dowager Aunt?
A Few Piccies
Not the best pic - the lump on her shoulder
