I will admit that the rice makes me feel a bit odd! However! If it's working for Alfie then that's all that matters, and it's still a whole lot better (and cheaper I imagine!) than feeding the prescription food full time Glad he's doing well on his diet barley

Especially since it's white rice too. But something is needed to bulk the meals out, and otherwise it would just be even more veg which probably wouldn't do his tummy any favours!

I totally get why you're feeding it though barley and I probably would do exactly the same if I were you. At the end of the day, fresh food has to be better than the processed foods (although no offence meant to anyone who feeds kibble of course). No, probably not!

Thanks, will look into it, not one I have heard of before. At the moment I can not decide if I should add one or not. I occasionally am dropping a yudigest into their bowls (the ones I got in a comp win a while back). I hadn't heard of it either. I just kind of stumbled across it - after scouring every pet shopping site and analysing every product over and over like a million times It was a little tricky to find one suitable for Alfie. Yudigest would be my 'go to' usually but the palatable chewy tablet type things are high in phosphorus, that's why we had to stop Yumove. I know they do the sachets too, but they'd work out expensive for daily use. The Opti-Digest was ok ingredient wise and added bonus, it was very cheap!

It was D-day again today. My boss took him for me as I had to be in London early. Said he was as good as gold - didn't even to be muzzled for his blood test, so he obviously just likes being an arse for my benefit! Anyway Urea and phosphorus both in normal ranges (urea had creeped up last time but was back down again today). Rise in creatinine but not by a horrible amount. All in all, not bad! Urine been set away for culturing but dipstick test was similar to normal (for Alfie). Does anyone know what GGT stands for?

Does anyone know what GGT stands for? Gamma-Glutamyl transferase The range is 0-11 and Alfie's levels have been as low as 1 and as high as 11 - just been looking and I think it's something to do with the liver. Not sure why it's been so up/down.

It is something to do with Liver , I googled it but ... sometimes that puts the wind up ya , so never posted comments I read . Best to talk to vet than read on internet as everyone is so different depending on their circumstances right ?

I agree scallywag talk to your vet barley although I will add that like Pauline I googled it & bu ftound it can be linked to the Kidney rather than the liver which would match Alfie's condition.

I didn't see the vet this time as my boss took him to his appointment for me, but to be honest, the vet has never mentioned it as point of concern so I'm just doing my usual trick of over thinking/over worrying. I have all his blood results saved on my phone and it was only when flicking through them comparing that I realized it had been so up and down.

Glad Alfie is enjoying his diet, its great you have managed to source correct info for ingredients to cook fresh food for him.Ive never been convinced that feeding absolute dry food diet after seeing how much a tiny piece expands after being dropped in water.I have cooked a batch of beef,(sometimes chicken) with carrots and celery to mix with Skips dry food with some of the liquid. (I never add salt or oxo),Skip loves home cooked food.
