I'm not sure tonib ! It's a bit late now as he's had his tea lol. As it's his legs, it might not matter. Why won't it matter ? Does your vet manage to do xrays whilst pet just sits there really still ( he must be a marvel then ) but... If they are going to do the test for the cruciate rupture, pushing pulling twisting, I think he will have to have a GA surely Good luck , hope its not a rupture xx I honestly have no idea scallywag! Lol. I don't know how x-rays work. The vet pushed and pulled at his leg today, and he only reacted with his knee so I'm guessing it could be his cruciate or it could be his kneecap, perhaps? The vet still doesn't think it's a rupture, but of course, they can't be 100% sure without x-rays. So, he's booked in for x-rays on Wednesday. I'll be taking him Tuesday night and he'll stay overnight before having the x-rays done Wednesday. He normally has tea at 6pm, but I'm thinking I might not feed him before I take him but I'll take his food allowance with us so that he can have his normal food if he's allowed it. I'll have to warn them of his unpredictable tendencies around men, although I'm not sure if there are any men working there now! I never see any. He should be ok with the vets and nurses, he usually is when we go in. He's been prescribed more loxicom and they've ordered us some YuMove for him as the vet thinks it will be beneficial. He's getting the Advance version, which is usually used for older, arthritic dogs! He's still been carrying his leg and hopping about on 3 legs today, whereas the first time we noticed, he was back to 4 legs the next morning. So I'm guessing that whatever the problem is, it's worse this time. Hopefully the x-rays on Wednesday will reveal more.

Hope you get to the bottom of it Emma trouble is they can mask the problem so well. But the tell tale signs usually are the hoping around on 3 legs at speed but 4 legs casually, I have had 3 experiences of the cruciate, seems like the pet can blank it out when they need to. Still hope its not the cruciate, wouldn't wish that on any owner, nearly 12 weeks of keeping a pet down xxx

Poor boy, hope they can find the cause with the X-rays. Is there a reason for taking him in the night before? Give him a gentle hug from me.

I know scallywag, it's a nightmare. He does a very good job of looking like there's nothing wrong but he's definitely not right. He's had the first dose of Loxicom with his tea tonight and I do think it's helped as he doesn't seem to be quite as uncomfortable now. If we have to keep him quiet for such a long time, I honestly don't know how we'll do it. cazypops the only reason for taking him the night before is simply due to work. Because it'll be up to me to take him in, and I start work at 7.30am, there's no other way to get him there. I can't drop him off before 7.30 as there'll only be the night nurse there and it needs to be a vet who admits him I think. My brother is away for a work conference from Monday and he won't get back till Wednesday, but he doesn't know what time so I'll have to take him. He's laid next to me on the settee... well, he was. Pepper sat up and he thought there was something to watch outside so he jumped down and immediately lifted his leg up again >.<

Well, Cody has had his x-rays and we still seem none the wiser. When I picked him up, I obviously had to speak to the vet and she said that there was nothing really obviously wrong with either his hips or his knees, although his knees are a bit "square". I'm not exactly sure what that means and I forgot to ask, but she didn't seem overly bothered about it so I'm assuming it's nothing to worry about at this stage. She said that it's likely that everything is just a bit "sprain-y" seeing as he hasn't really been resting as he should have been. We basically have to try and keep him as quiet as we can i.e. no jumping up and down off the furniture, no charging up the stairs. He's got the Loxicom to continue with and we also have the YuMove now so he's started that today. We'll assess him as we go along and if he still ends up limping in a couple of weeks time, we'll go back once more!

I hope it's nothing serious and just a sprain. It's so hard to stop them jumping around and even harder when you have other dogs too! Good luck in keeping him quiet for a few weeks!! But hopefully there will be some improvements and nothing too serious.

I'm glad there was nothing obvious showing up on the x-rays. Good luck in keeping him quiet, I'm afraid that Jack Russel and quiet just don't go in the same sentence. I really hope that you have better luck than we did, and he picks up soon.

Lol, no, we've already realised it's impossible to stop him being a nutter. He's still charging around and jumping up and down off the settee despite our best efforts. He's just too quick to jump! We don't get chance to stop him >.<

Glad to hear that there's nothing obviously wrong with Cody orpheous87 but at the same time it must be really frustrating not to have a definitive diagnosis. As to keeping him quiet, I don't suppose crate rest is an option? OK I've only had to do it with a cat (twice!) but it could help - obviously you'd still have to take him out for toileting. For a few days/a week it shouldn't affect his muscle tone, only his frustration!!!

It is a bit, but at the same time, if he heals up fully then I guess we can put it down to it just being a bad sprain that's been aggravated by his lack of rest. It's been so far so good since I picked him up on Wednesday. Although he's still running and jumping about.
Not really. He barks too much when he gets frustrated at being in there and he jumps about too much too, which I would think would be worse.
