Just seen this petition and thought I would add here. Have heard of a possible babesiosis case in north Suffolk now! Though a case of closing door once horse has bolted but do think the passport system needs re-looking at! petition.parliament.uk/petitions/124844 Signed

Omg, I missed a call earlier and I just listened to the message - it's from BBC Look East! They're in the area today and want a local dog walker to comment on that whole tick issue in town and how its affected things for me. Don't get excited as I'm not going to do it lol (sorry! ) but omg what.

lol Alfiemummy, council look to be doing the 'shut gate after the horse has bolted thing'!! Bit late now to try and clear the area of the ticks that are infected with Babesiosis, they would have walked their way into other areas by now! Anyone hear the BBC news report about how bad ticks are and that they are year round issue etc? Anyone gone playing on the Big Tick Project website? Not sure I totally trust the map as I went somewhere I know there are lots of ticks and no blobs to indicate ticks reported! Dodgy! www.bigtickproject.co.uk/about/uk-tick-threat-map/ Anyway going by this map the area I tend to walk and live in dont have any blobs but county put as a low-med risk. Did find this interesting to show the species www.bigtickproject.co.uk/ticks-in-the-uk/get-acquainted-with-ticks/TBH most of the ones I have seen on my dogs in the past are the Caster Bean tick (i.e sheep tick)! Now the question, what do people use to prevent the spread of these nasty diseases? As you all know I am not a fan of spot ons and very quickly going off idea of tablet form after reading about some dogs reactions to them! I am however going on holiday to a very high risk of ticks area in October so as such I am digging for ideas of how to discourage the nasty blighters! We tend to groom multiple times a day when away in tick prone areas and they will be bathed before they go in a product that claims to be a repellent. Can not double up the repellent action by using Billy no Mates as I dont have time to get it into their systems. EDIT: Came across this article when reading something else. Shows how dangerous tick borne diseases can be for us humans in some places around the world! www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/03/two-new-cases-in-spain-of-potentially-fatal-crimean-congo-haemor/
