Barley is very strange with children, i dont know wether he is scared of them or just thinks it is fun but he likes to run up to them and knock them over, i have called him off of doing this but only a couple of times as he just gets 'in the zone' and no matter how much you shout he will not listen. he loves doing it so much cause they scream and make noises which makes it more fun for him, we have learnt from our mistakes and is not let of lead round children or people running/playing football for that matter. You said you were going to take Barley training for KC awards I think you should get your trainers advice ASAP! As Collie Slave put this is very serious in the eyes of the law. A friend told me of a dog they know that now has a dog control order on it where if its is outside of the owners front door it legally has to be on a lead. This was when the young dog accidentally knocked a kid over and parent complained.

I sometimes think that instead of a dog control order it would be more beneficial to have the owner go to training classes to teach them how to be a more responsible owner and keep their pets under control. After all it's not the dogs fault.

I think you need to get his bad behaviours sorted out. It sounds a bit like he thinks he rules the household, if you know what I mean.
He's possessive, sometimes dominant with other dogs, knocks kids over etc. He definitely needs to get to a behaviourist puppypal. Is that something you can talk to your parents about or are they the sort who will bury their heads and say there's no problem? (Mine could be like that)

With a little help from a friend we have figured out the cause of barley's spooking, our next door neighbors, they moved here about a month or so ago and they had a dog, a french bulldog bitch. Talking with my friend who is studying animal behavior at college we worked out that it was our neighbors dog that was making him spook easier as he felt more threatened and insecure abut his surroundings, this all made sense when it was pointed out if anything in his surroundings has changed to cause this behavior. The reason he had been barking more was because the other dog was barking and if you listened carefully you could hear it. During this week we are putting up a new fence cause we don't trust the current one and barley could break it if he really wanted to and i don't want to think what he would do to there dog.

You don't want to think what he would do to the dog? In what way? That sounds awfully ominous to me...
