Animals I love: Cats
Pets I own: Have always had cats as far as I can remember. Currently the owners of a Tabby kitten called "Ringo". He was born Weds 29/04/2015 & we got him Thursday 18/06/2015. He's just over 3 months old at time of writing. He is light grey with black Tiger stripes & he has black rings around his tail & back legs, hence the name "Ringo". Nothing to do at all about The Beatles. Now he has started to develop a beigey colour in his coat, & in some photos & different light, for some reason seems to have a slight orangey/ginger colour.
He's a right character, always friendly & loving & happy to see us, always following us around the house, always charging around & playing with his toys & stalking anything that moves, & then when he gets tired, jumps up for a fuss. Couldn't ask for a better cat. He's perrrfect.

Well, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. When we left the vet yesterday about midday, Ringo's wound was still open, about three quarters to an inch long, four to five millimeters wide & about two millimeters deep. Wish I'd took a picture now to compare. Because the wound was still quite big, that's why the vet said cage rest & cone for the next two weeks. When we got Ringo out of his cage at 10pm last night to give him his meds & clean his wound, I already noticed that his wound had filled itself in somehow & started to seal itself. For a couple of seconds, my first initial thought, & I said out loud that I hope it hadn't got infected & filled up with gunk, but then Cheryl reminded me it can't be because Ringo's been on antibiotics for a while now & at one point he was on two different antibiotics. I've come home from work today, said hello to Ringo & had a look at his leg. His wound is doing really well compared to yesterday afternoon. It looks like it's now sealed & not wet at all, completely dry & trying to heal over fully. Such a huge difference in such a small amount of time. At this rate of healing, I might be able to take his cone off when I get home from work tomorrow, & then let him totally free from Tuesday, or Wednesday just to make sure. We don't want him ripping open any scabs that have formed. Cheryl read your replies, then went on Facebook to watch a video someone posted of clips of cats & Xmas trees. She has said we're not having a tree this year she doesn't think. Ringo is too feisty & too much of a nut case this year lol.

Nearly there. The scab on Ringo's leg is really small now & will fall off in the next day or 2. We tried him the other day without his collar on to give him a chance to have a wash & clean up & after 5 minutes of cleaning himself, went for his cut & just as I got to him, he pulled the small scab off, so his collar went straight back on. The light at the end of the tunnel is now a lot brighter. Once Ringo's life is back to normal, after the new year, we can see about getting him done before we let him start going out on his own. We've always been nervous whenever we've let our past cats out for the 1st time.

That is great to hear J1M, will have to go back to the vets to be signed off. As to the going out, I know that feeling from when we let our cats out for the first time. Admittedly they were already adults as they were rescue cats but it was still new territory. I hope you'll continue to update us with his adventures

It took a few more days than we thought but the last of Ringo's scab fell off day before yesterday. Cage is down again & his tree is up. Ringo's leg looks so much better now. No wound, no scab, just short fur where it was. He's been free to run around the house again & loves it. The last 2 nights, Ringo has slept at the end of our bed & hasn't moved till morning. He just wants to be with us. Cheryl took him out last night on his lead for the first time in two & a half months. In the new year we shall get him done by the vet ready for when we decide to let him out on his own. It's really nice seeing him running around & having fun again. He seems so happy

So glad he has made a full recovery, sounds like he's not let it take any of his mad kitten antics away too haha!

Just a thought: now that your gorgeous wee man is more mobile......have you sorted out insurance yet? Don't want Ringo having any more accidents

Oh no, he's still a nut case kitten. His favourite is stalking everyone & jumping out at them & bouncing away. There's no claws or teeth or anything, it seems like it's just a case of "ha, got ya" & then runs away. He makes you jump when he does it to you, but it looks quite funny when you are able to sit back & watch him do it to other people instead. We bought some refill attachment feathers for Ringo's Flying Frenzy & gave him a couple to play with on their own & he flicks them & tosses them in the air before picking it up in his mouth & running off with it. He can be very possessive with them sometimes & carries one of them around with him. When we pick one up to throw it across the living room or up the hallway, Ringo gets ready to chase it & then runs after it like a dog. We're thinking we might be able to use them to teach him to play go fetch. Even when I picked his 2 feather toys up to take a picture, he had to go with them to see what I was doing with them. We both come on the forum quite regularly & have a read of what's going on, although Cheryl reads more of the different threads than me. I can be quite busy on the PC doing other things when i'm not at work. I'm also into PC gaming & make alot of truck & trailer mods for games like Euro Truck Simulator 2, & making mods can take up alot of time & effort. As for Ringo's future adventures, hopefully, we'll have lots to tell everyone over time. There will be his neutering in February or March once we get all the Xmas & New Year bills out the way. Then we have the fun/worry of letting him out on his own for the 1st time, but i'd rather wait until he's at least a year old which won't be until 29th April. At the moment Cheryl takes him out the front on a harness & lead for about 15 - 20 minutes during the day. She just lets Ringo go where he wants to go, which is not far really as we live in a small close/cul-de-sac, & on one side of the road, we have a big grass field/park where kids play. He just sniffs his way from one flower or fence to the next. He's like a dog when the doorbell rings. As soon as he hears it, he darts for the front door. We are just waiting for him to start meowing or growling when he does it lol.Yes we have insurance on Ringo now. We are with a company called PetPlan at £8 a month. It's a Lifetime policy that gives us up to £4000 a year for vet fees with a £75 excess + 5% of the vet bill. Hopefully nothing like this ever happens again, but if it does, we are prepared. We were nearly ready when Ringo had his accident. We were actually in the process of looking at quotes & cover to start when I got paid only 2 weeks later. I was hoping that his 2+ months in the cage would get Ringo out of wanting to sleep up by my PC but, nope. It wasn't so bad before because he was alot smaller & fitted just in front of my monitor. Now he's bigger he has decided he has to lay where my keyboard goes & I can only just about use my mouse lol. Pictures also show Ringo's new collar we got him. I saw it on Amazon & just had to get it. Cheryl wasn't too sure, but I thought it could be his little bit of bling, & I thought it suited him with the stripes on it. I think he looks good with it on. We've also attached to it one of those small capsule things with his name & our details & that he's been micro chipped. You can see the capsule in the picture above of him by the front door.

J1M my cat Smudgie used to play fetch like that with balls of paper, she would run and get them and then hop back onto the couch next to me, presumably to investigate it herself to be fair haha but it ended up as a good game! I wish I'd used clicker training with her and taught her to do it properly as it was always so fun and cute when she did it. Hahaha I love the second picture with the feather toy there, he looks very serious making sure you don't steal his toy! As for him sleeping by your PC - get a cardboard box and place it on your desk somewhere, and you should be fine haha. Worked for my girls! We have a cardboard box with the roof and one side off it, and a tshirt over it, which has become a favourite cat den and hammock of both Mieze and also of Carlotta when she was alive. Finally we have a relatively cat free desk.
