To get him to put that foot down you lift another foot up, preferably the diagonal one. But not until the vet says you need to get him to start putting weight on it.
Don't worry about doing things. Work within your comfort zone, and his of course. You'll get better at it. The massaging is good as fresh blood takes away the congealed blood (bruising) so swelling should be going down quickly.
What problems are you having with the ice packs?

Hes been bit grumpy and getting him to allow me to get to it, he's a lot brighter tonight but... Naughty mummy has forgotten to give him the metacam, distracted cause he had to have the synulox tablet.
Well that gets me back on track now to give in the mornings which is what I am used to, one miss wont do any harm will it?
Don't want to give him it now incase it makes him sick thru the night

If he's not showing pain I wouldn't give him the Metacam now. Especially if it means he keeps his food down. You could ask the vet in the morning if it's ok to stop the Metacam.
Anyway, with my dogs I felt that little pain would do them good as they would rest and not go silly and undo the vet's good job. And you are the best judge of what level of pain your dog can tolerate.

Phew, just looked in...sorry you and Beau have been having such a rotten time S.W. yes fish and chicken with boiled rice are good for delicate tums, I was advised to simmer it as the juice mixed into the rice helps to tempt them to eat.(roast chicken tends to give them terrible gas anyway). Poor Beau must be feeling very sorry for himself, hope he feels much better tomorrow.

Oh dear scallywag, I hope by the time you read this Beau will have kept his food down overnight. As others have said I would speak to the vets - amongst other options they might give you an anti-nausea drug - we had it for Osiris once when he was sick & off his food - it was a liquid we had to syringe into his mouth. I know he was injected with Vomend at the vets but can't remember the liquid to use at home (might have been Emeprid) Also Roman was sick 2 days after his op & was given anti-nausea meds with his Metacam & antibiotics.

Morning, raining here had thunder around 4.30 fortunately we were out at 4 so that was good timing on Beaus behalf. We settled down at 11 and was up at 1 and 4 only. He slept with me instead of his basket so that was nice too
No sickness after noon yesterday, going to try him on chicken again today

He is doing well thanks chantel. He has just had another small meal, I am doing little and often, not put him back on his kibble yet but will introduce that in this evenings meal. We were out for a toilet break earlier, so pleased he was putting his foot down every 3rd step LOL Thanks once again to all of you for the support x

Oh that sounds promising scallywag. Give him another couple of days and you'll be complaining that you have the opposite problem with him, (trying to keep him calm, and rested)

Glad to hear Beau has held some food down and that he is attempting to occasionally put foot to ground. Fingers crossed he stays a good boy and stays calm and sensible. Lets hope with all our fingers crossed that he does not start springing off the walls and turning you grey!!
