Amber's loving her new raw food diet, started on Monday and she's licking her bowl clean each time! Here's what she has had: - Monday AM Chicken Legs & Broccoli
- Monday PM Natures:menu Chicken & Tripe nuggets
- Tuesday AM Chunk of beef
- Tuesday PM Natures:menu chicken nuggets & coconut oil
I got her some more meat from the butcher today, beef mince and chicken legs, wings & thighs. She's enthusiastically waiting as I prepare her food and gets really excited! So it's going down well. And no tummy upsets or anything (yet!) I was thinking, for her bones, maybe to get some ribs? Although beef is probably too dense? As the butchers "bone day" is tomorrow - I need to decide what to get, last week we got a "large marrowbone" but this week I'd prefer something different as I was concerned about the marrowbone being so hard, although Amber was grand with it. What do you think of the gRÁW stuff? Looks OK to me, was considering getting some. On the website it sounds good? (It's from Dogs' First) Thanks everyone for all the advice you've given me. Anyway, here's a pic of her enjoying her meal. No going back now! Haha

I am starting to see differences in Amber since feeding raw - for a start she drinks a lot less & hardly any poop and all firm. She's loving it and licks the bowl clean each time. Sorry, have a few more questions........ I have got her some pork ribs from the butcher. When do you think I can introduce pork? She's still on just chicken and beef and her tummy has been completely fine. I was thinking next week -ish? By the way, do they eat the rib bones?! I also got her a whole haddock from the fish shop (it stinks in that shop -really horrid ) thats frozen for now so not going to rush into giving her that just yet! The lady in the fish shop was saying that the bones were bad for dogs, but as its raw it's OK right? Just said I'd check! Hoping to start Holly on raw in the next few weeks. My sister has agreed to give her puppy the rest of the kibble. For Holly, I was thinking chicken necks or wings? To begin with? If I fed her 2.5% of her bodyweight, she would have 100g/day (If I've done my maths right ) Amber has 1kg a day! HUGE difference!! Just about to give her a bone to chew on now....!

If holly is a puppy then you feed 2.5% of their ADULT weight, I think. Not 100% sure so you may want to check it. Id go for wings.
Fish bones are fine raw.
They eat all the ribs, bone and all. I'd say next week would be fine for the pork ribs if she is doing ok with the chicken and beef,

Thanks bextull! I think I'll try the ribs with her next week (if she's still settled then) For Holly - she seems to be "full grown" now as she's stayed the same size for a few months now (she's 7 months) When she was neutered the vet told us to put her on to adult food. So I don't know whether to give her the normal adult amount? I suppose so..... I was pretty sure fish bones were OK but said I'd check in case

Good luck with the fish AA, found it a bit hit and miss here (with kidder anyway) so I just stick to tinned now. If amber turns her nose up at it fresh, you may have more luck frozen.
Pork and lamb ribs will go down beautifully.
I've read bits of this thread and your planning seems quite thorough. I started off like that but now I just have a couple of types of stuff on the go and when ones run out I start on a different type. Hope that makes sense, it does make things easier to manage. For offal I get a pack of liver and work it in somewhere over a few days. Then the next week I'll get kidney and do the same with that. Then the next week more liver, repeat till end..... Hope that all made sense

Thanks julie72, I think she'll like the fish but we'll find out soon enough The freezer is packed, I have squished in lots of stuff (I had to take the drawers out that's how much I had. LOL) So we now have some Natural Instinct, as well as Beef Chunks & Turkey Backs. I remember another question I had.....how do you do your fruit & veg? I have a hand blender which I could use to get the veggies (like broccoli for example) really small - but you do feed it raw, right?! Getting into the hang of the whole raw thing now, you know defrosting stuff and going to the butcher, deciding what she's going to have....I'm enjoying it! Amber's delighted with herself

Though I am still very green to the idea and probably should keep my nose out my understanding (or lack of it) is that veg should be blended or cooked before being fed (unless it is over ripe fruit and then I don't think it matters).
Dogs find it hard to digest veg so if it is too large a chunks it will just act as roughage!!
I don't have blender yet and so plan to just finely chop/ grate veg initially!!

Have not totally decided exactly what mine are having tomorrow The whole sardines and heart are a must due to dates but unsure about the rest options are:- lamb breast or chicken quarters Gave them one pork rib each this evening as a treat, they seemed to go down well confidence in feeding bones has gone up very slightly!! Rest of the ribs now in freezer and some of them will be used next weekend.

Caz - watch out for stinky bums and diarrhoea when feeding two "rich" foods together i.e. sardines and heart...just a word of warning yours may be ok but something to be aware of....when I started out raw I kept a food diary so that I could keep tabs on what foods caused certain problems such as flatulence, diarrhoea or sickness. Good for you growing in confidence...not as scary as you think it is going to be LOL
