My furbaby Kiara was taken from me lastnight. I opted to try her on Cartrophen yesterday to help her bladder as she kept having episodes of bleeding. About 5 hours later I found her collapsed and panting so we rushed her to the out of hours vets, they put her on oxygen but she passed away an hour later. They told me a blood clot had blocked her artery leading to her back legs and the wasn't anything they could do. No one can tell me if the injection caused the clot (basically i killed her) or if the clot was already there and the blockage was a unhappy coincidence I cant stop crying, I keep blaming myself and im at a loss as to where to go from here. My Husband is doing all he can to help me - My other cat Cleo is a little bit lost at the moment.. I feel theres only so much some people will take as an acceptable amount of grieving for a cat though Sorry to blurt this all out - I used to be a member of this forum a couple years ago and i kinda disappeared... Feeling so sad

cleocleo01 I'm so sorry to hear about your Kiara, its no wonder you are feeling so sad. Please don't blame yourself as presumably you were advised on this treatment by your vet. Just let your husband, family & Cleo provide & take comfort. There's no such thing as and acceptable amount of greiving, after all it was only last night & there is no such thing as "just a cat". Sorry that your return to the forum is in such sad circumstances but we are here if you feel you want to talk more & tell us more of your Kiara. Kiara will be well again now, playing with all those who've gone before at Rainbow Bridge. RIP Kiara

Welcome back cleo,so sorry to hear your heartbreaking news. Please don't beat yourself up about a decision you had to make, your vet wouldn't have given injection if he thought it was too high a risk. Some things happen and are completely out of our and the vets hands. So please stop blaming yourself,it could have happened anyway, and you would blame yourself for not letting Kiara have the injection. You will be so lost in your grief, you will be looking for answers that can't be given,we all do that on the loss of an adored pet.Don't apologize for anything, many of us have been through this heartbreak and understand what you are going through. I was a complete mess for weeks after the passing of my pets, and pet owners understand and sympathise.Only this morning a vet on the news said he sees tattood very tough men break down at the loss of a pet,so it's absolutely normal. As another forum member stated, the more a pet is loved, the more it is grieved for.So very true.

So sad to hear about your cat Kiara. You are not to blame. The grief will make you think that you could have done something different. I blamed myself when one of my cats was killed on the road at 8 months old. None of us on this forum think your cat was 'just a cat' and we all understand your grief.
We are all here for you and understand what you are going through.
R.I.P. Kiara xx

Kiara was your cat and thats all thats important. If the people around you cant cope with your grieving, you can always chat to like minded folk on here for understanding. I believe blaming yourself is in itself a natural part of grief. Time means nothing in terms of grief, you will work your way through it when and how you see fit. Im sure Kiara was an amazing cat and she will be forever etched in your heart. There are Pet bereavement telephone lines you can call if you really feel the need to talk to someone in person. Take care and Rest in peace Kiara.

Very sorry to hear your news! Don't blame yourself for what happened, at the end of the day you did what you thought was best for her as any good pet owner would, and the clot may have had nothing to do with the injection (likely, as if she was urinating blood her blood will have naturally tried to clot to stop the loss of blood).
Glad you have your husband there to comfort you, take as long as you like to grieve. Cats are family members too after all!

sorry for your loss, I know how you are feeling, you aren't to blame you had done what you thought that was right for Kiara, we would of done the same as the vets know more than we do. we all miss the pets we have lost and I know it hurts alot . keep those good memories close to your heart and things will get better in time,

Thank you all for your support. I'm amazed at how using something like this and facebook you can generate such lovely support from complete strangers. I have to say that I have had more support online than i have from my supposed best friend - The fact she has hardly spoken to me has added to the upset I am already feeling. She's as an animal lover herself and has loads of rabbits and guineapigs and has sadly lost 2 cats in the past. Kiara is my first cat to pass away since i was a child, I kinda hoped id be able to talk to her about what happened... apparently not

Sorry to hear you're not talking to your friend, cleocleo01, maybe she just doesn't know what to say.
