Ouch, tonib! I hope you've recovered from the shock of your accident. Do you know how long it will take for your car to be repaired? Mine's not finished yet, the new grille for the front had a 10-day waiting list, so the repair centre put the scratched one back on so I could have my car back on the 15th Dec. I had to have a new screen wash bottle and they didn't put any windscreen wash in it! Hubby had to get some for me and come to my place if work with it. I had to pay an extra £200 excess to have my car repaired locally (5 minutes walk away). It was worth it, less hassle than 10 miles away.

This is a photo I took of the damage, the blue/green is from the bus! It also shows how muddy the recovery compound was when I went to collect everything out of the car!!!! 20231219_125346 by osiriscat, on Flickr I was very, very lucky it din't hit the driver's door! I still can't work out what happened to cause it. Did I misjudge the gap, had the bus speeded up, had I made too shallow a turn so didn't clear the lane quick enough, was I too slow turning out out of the side road. The bus I presume had a camera so I may eventually find out. Still got to hear about my car & I've no idea what the police may or may not do. But there's nothing I can do about it now . The last time I was in an accident sometime pre 2000 I was in a queue waiting to turn right when the car behind hit me, apparently she'd used the accelerator rather than the brake. It pushed me into the car in front. I think my car got the worst of it. Luckily the car in front was hardly damaged & the passengers & its contents were OK, just as well they were taking a wedding cake to the venue!!! It turned out that the car behind's driver was uninsured, no MOT & had children on board!!! orpheous87 & cazypops those late claims are a real cheek, glad they seem to have come to nothing. lotsofcats I suppose whiplash isn't always apparent at the time but an injured leg should be noticeable at the scene. Flipping heck tonib you really were lucky. The angle of that back wheel looks like the axle could have snaped. I hope not. How will you manage if they right it off and you have to give the curtsy car back?

Omg tonib you were very lucky indeed,it could have been so much worse. I imagine it will all be going around in your head - did I 🤔didn’t I 🤔that’s normal- when I had my incident- I couldn’t stop thinking 🤔 was I going too fast🤔didn’t i break quick enough 🤔 The fact of the matter is you can’t change anything and the main thing is other than a few aches and pains you were able to walk away from it in one piece. Hopefully nothing will come of it with the police and like you say the mini bus had a camera so you will probably find out what happened and at least nobody was hurt. Have you heard from the insurance company yet ,!? Fingers crossed it’s not too bad .

chantel, it wasn't a mini bus but a double decker!! As to the repair, haven't got a clue. Today I received a letter from the recovery compound saying I had until a specific date to get my car removed, as far as I was concerned it was being picked up in the week between Xmas & New Year as I got a text to say it was being delivered before 3pm on 23rd Dec. I queried that as I understood the garage it was going to was closed on the Saturday! Chased that up at the time with the company the text came from & also my insurers & apparently it wasn't the Saturday but the following week! Today checked first with the compound to confirm that it hadn't been picked by now, they hadn't heard anything at all! Contacted my insurers & they were surprised, they chased up the people that were picking it up but apparently there had been some issues, such as the garage it was going to having 1/2 days or they couldn't contact them to arrange. So no one had been to pick it up!!!! Latest is that it should be picked up today if not then on Monday. I did receive a text from the transporters today but with no real info in it. So will check with the compound tomorrow. There's been a series of small hiccups on this!

Well the mix ups continue. I got a call this morning from the driver who'd arrived to pick up the car from the compound but couldn't get hold of anyone there. Apparently they are open on a Saturday morning but only by prior arrangement or so said the notice. I got my insurers to try & sort it out again!!! Goodness knows when my vehicle will be assessed but hopefully it will be transported to the garage on Monday, fingers crossed!

Had nothing but trouble getting my car collected from the compound by my repair garage. Had to get permission from the recovery company, they wanted payment first!

scallywag, my insurance included a courtesy car whilst my vehicle is being repaired but I didn't take the option for a hire car for time outside of that, so if it gets written off then that will be another matter. Down to me to get a hire car whilst I find a new vehicle I presume. I've only got a hire cat this time as the garage that is taking the car couldn't provide a courtesy car until towards the end of Jan, so my insurance went for the hire car option until the garage has one. lotsofcats when I picked up my things from the car at the compound I asked about payment, they implied that the insurers would pay for that through the garage but that was when they expected the garage to pic it up. Apparently my insurers have commission their associated recovery people to do it as the garage couldn't organise one. Its a right mix-up wouldn't be surprised if I get contacted for payment!!!!! Not sure how much that will be as its been there since late on 18th Dec plus the actual recovery costs. If only my own recovery membership hadn't had a 3 hour plus wait for assistance at the time, the police didn't want to wait that long to clear the road.

Nothing goes smoothly with car recovery tonib. I hope they don't write your car off because as soon as they do, they take your courtesy car away! It happened to me years ago when my son crashed my car. As soon as I was told they insurance company were writing the car off, they told me they were coming to collect the courtesy car. I was in work and had to arrange a lift home and then had to go and buy a new car.

Well, the saga goes on. Today I got a text to tell me they were now taking my car to another garage, probably as it works out more convenient for me. Contacted the insurers, apparently they picked up my car from the compound & took it to the original repairers/assessors & they rejected it as they had no space for it! So they've now got it in their own recovery compound until the new garage confirms everything. At least it seems a little more organised now & in their control! lotsofcats, I confirmed what would happen if they wrote it off & what you described is more or less the case. Once the garage take it then I will get a courtesy car from the garage as soon as they have one available & the hire car will go back. If they write it off I suspect I'll organise a hire car until I can find a car. In the meantime I'll keep an eye on the dealers just in case. thanks for everyone's information on their dealings with insurance etc. I really appreciate it, its helping me deal with what's happening. All my past insurance dealings I've had have been straight forward but the incidents have been no way near as bad.

I hope it all gets sorted from now on tonib. Does insurance cover go up after you've have an accident? I'd only been with my insurance company for one week when I had my bump. I've got protected no claims bonus, but don't really know the benefit of that.
