Oddly found this when looking online for where to park at the new(ish) local post office. It's a long video but worth watching to the end, don't be panicked by the title. After a bit of a search I think I found the original video post on youtube (it matches with the comment about having an instagram page in the video) but although especially appealing to cat lovers I think all pet owners will enjoy it.

scallywag & lotsofcats, no idea of timescale yet. I hadn't realised that I had ticked the protected no claims but I had!!!! Didn't know it would bring the quote down generally or do you mean that as I won't lose my no claims discount then my next year (starts in April) quote won't be as bad as if I'd not protected it? I've been with this insurer since 2011. I was previously with one that gave discounts for local government workers & I took early retirement in 2009 so my 2010 insurance went up a small amount but it made me look at alternatives for 2011!!!

Does insurance cover go up after you've have an accident? I'd only been with my insurance company for one week when I had my bump. I've got protected no claims bonus, but don't really know the benefit of that. I can answer this. The cost of your policy will increase, then over the next 5 years the cost won't go up as much. Your no claims bonus will stay the same, so you will still get the benefit like you normally do.
This happen weather you are at fault or not.
The main way to reduce the cost is to increase you voluntary excess.
On a slightly different note, OH changed his car in October and we paid £30 admin fee to change the policy to the new car. This month he's now got the new quote for the next year and it has increased over £100 pound. Not because of the car but all insurance has gone up, we did a comparison and were last year it was £300 this year it's gone to nearly £500. They reckon that there are more cars on the road now, so more claims.

Fingers crossed I think they cut the discount years to a max of 9+ bit like redundancy pay , you can work in a job for 40 odd years but you only get the per week rate x 20 years ? lotsofcats may know better , I been retired toooo long

Fingers crossed 🤞 for you tonib hopefully things are looking up for you. I'm off today so I'm going to try and speak with a Dr today about my chest. It's 10 months since I had covid and laryngitis I'm still coughing up lots of stuff off my chest on a daily basis- it starts when I wake and continues throughout the day. Last time I spoke with a gp they said it was long covid but it's getting so much worse it's starting to get me down now 😷

With reference to the no claims bonus, it is cut off at 9 years. After that it just means you won't get any extra discount offered off your premium when you renew. if you've made a claim (like me), my no claims bonus means I get a discount on my premium renew, BUT THEY MAKE THE AMOUNT HIGHER BEFORE THEY START!!, i think that means they've got you all ways.

My insurers no claims discount is up to 20 years, this is from my 23/24 insurance documents Average no claims discount by number of years Number of years NCD | Average NCD in 2022 | 1 year | 8% | 2 years | 13% | 3 | 19%
| 4 | 23% | 5 | 26%
| 6 | 28% | 7 | 29% | 8 | 31% | 9 | 36% | 10 | 37% | 11 | 38% | 12 | 38% | 13 | 39% | 14 | 39% | 15 | 40% | 16 | 40% | 17 | 41% | 18 | 41% | 19 | 42% | 20+ (max recognised) | 42% |
Impact of claims on your no claims discount:- Number of years No Claims Discount at this renewal 21 No Claims Discount at next renewal date without No Claims Discount protection 1 claim in next 12 months 4 years 2 claims in next 12 months 2 years 3 claims in next 12 months Nil No Claims Discount at next renewal date with No Claims Discount protection 1 claim in next 12 months 21 years 2 claims in next 12 months 7 years 3 claims in next 12 months Nil So my no claims discount protection is worth it.

I agree spider, the pet insurances have rocketed - why? To get my prices down a bit I've been lowering the amount of cover each time. I can't go any lower. It doesn't pay to stay with the same company either as theirs go up and up each year. That's good with your insurance company tonib. Who are you with? I will try them next time for a quote if their NCD is that good.

lotsofcats & cazypops I've sent you a PM as I'm not sure that publicly posting it is quite appropriate at the moment. However I'll happily let anyone know privately. Of course it it all depends what the basic quote is to allow them to give those sorts of discounts!!!
