Hello I have just joined as we are going to be getting our Bolognese puppy in January:-) They are petty rare from what I gather and although there is quite a bit of information out there a lot of the sites are American. Just wondering if there are any other Bolognese owners out there I can ask advise from?

Welcome to the forum daftforabolo I'm Toni with 4 rescue cats, hope all goes well with your new puppy when you get it. Those of who frequent the cat section don't bite so no problem in anyone posting or reading anything here See you've posted in the dog section when you realised the split

We have a cat as well so not so sure he will be happy about puppys arrival! Actually I do have a question relating to both cat and dog so may you kind people out there can help! We don't want the puppy getting through the cat flap and no one out there seems to do one that locks from inside but allows cat in from inside. Our cat is used to coming and going as he old he please see can't let puppy do the same. We are think we may have to go back to letting him in and out ourselves. Unfortunately he sleeps most the day and parties at night. I would not feel happy locking him out at night. Any suggestions?

Hiya and welcome! Can you put the puppy in a crate overnight? It's secure for them, makes them feel happier, in a lot of cases, then the cat can still come and go as it wishes.

That is the plan for night time and when we are out! Sure all will be fine with a little forward planning and some crate training. Fingers crossed

Hi daftforabolo there is now a catflap which will check the id of the cat in the house before letting it out. Its sureflap's DualScan Microchip Cat flap see www.sureflap.co.uk/products/details/27-dualscan-microchip-cat-flap. It also works with RFID tags if your cat isn't chipped. There's not too much detail on the product page but read the manual - there's a link on the product page. We've got the Microchip Pet Door from them as our cats are a bit big for the smaller cat flap, so haven't got the dualscan option. Hope that helps

Welcome to the forum. I had to look up about a Bolognese dog as I haven't heard of that breed before. They are so sweet. Have you picked a name yet?

Hello everyone and thank you for the warm welcome! We are thinking maybe Lilly but not sure yet. Tonib - that is perfect thank you. We had been searching for a while and could not find one. He has been chipped so that should work. What's another £100 lol

Hello and welcome. My mum has a bolognese called Bella. She is the sweetest little thing. A proper lap dog but also loves nothing more than a 3 mile run across the beach. She never stays white for long and has to be thoroughly brushed everyday. There is a photo of her somewhere on the forum. I shall try and find it. Edit. If you hit SEARCH up top on the menu panel and type in bolognese you will find my few posts and photos on Bella.

As thank you will have a look! Yes I think the coat will take a lot if looking after but they are just gorgeous! I run as well so can't wait to have a wee companion when her wee bones are all grown up!

Well the cat flap was never a problem here when Cooper was a pup but you could put a little fence round the cat flap so the cat can jump over but the pup can't. Cooper now can't get through the cat flap as his fully grown but he does stick his head through if I'm the other side of the door.

If you will never want your puppy to use the cat flap you probably don't need the dualscan - the original Sureflap microchip cat flap should suffice. You program it with your cat's microchip and it will only open for her. www.sureflap.co.uk/products/details/1-microchip-cat-flapWould save you around £20.

Sorry zahada but sadly that only right for incoming. This is from their website Unfortunately for us we got Sureflap's Pet Door before they released the Dualscan flap. Although we probably wouldn't have changed as the flap is slightly smaller than the Staywell flap (not microchip) we previously had & our 2 boys found that one a close fit. Staywell's PetPorte was our original preference but we knew it wouldn't read 3 out of the 4 cats chips (the ones we got from the rescue). The Sureflap does read them all & the Pet Door's larger size makes it comfortable for all the cats.
