My piggy Milo has developed a rather large lump under his chin in the past two weeks, and its getting rather worrying. At first we thought it was just fat because he eats loads and its normal for piggies to develop 'chins' but its become clear its not that We have an appointment at the vet for 12.45pm, wish us luck. He's my favourite piggy and I'm going to be heartbroken if anything happens to him, I only adopted him a few months ago

Well, mixed news.
The vet was the one I don't like sadly, and he's not good with guineas (from experience we know that) and he's not very gentle either. However, he doesn't think the lump is a cyst or fluid filled as its too hard, but obviously couldn't be sure without taking a sample from the lump. It was horrible, we had to pin Milo down on his back while he shaved his chin and took three attempts to get the tiniest little bit of blood. Poor Milo was so traumatized that when we let go he just lay there on his back, I honestly thought he was dead for a while.
Anyway, those will come back next week, so I'll update then. If by small chance it is just an abcess, then its a case of draining and anti-biotics which is fine. If its a tumour, as we suspect, then I've already decided I'm not having him operated on. He's an overweight middle aged pig and the vet himself said he's quite unlikely to make it.
So he's out on the grass, acting his normal happy self, just with a great big lump on his chin. He's most definitely NOT speaking to us right now.

Sorry to read the vet visit didn't go so well. Hope the tests come back so that you get a positive outcome.
Poor Milo, but he'll forgive you soon.

Poor Milo - no wonder he's not speaking to you at the moment. Shame you got the vet who's not good with guinea pigs. It seems that some vets are only good with dogs and cats. Years ago I had a friend who took her pet duck to the vet and when she walked in the vet burst out laughing and said the only place the duck should be is on a dinner plate!!!!! needless to say she changed her vet after that.
I hope that the results show that Milo's lump is a cyst.

Sadly the results have shown Milo has cancer. It's OK though, he's still a happy pig in himself. He can have surgery, but it won't cure it, only *maybe* prolong his life slightly. And being a middle aged pig, he likely wouldn't survive the op anyway. He could have steroids, but again, its not going to cure it, and it would be stressful for him. So for now he's eating, drinking and squeaking away, so we're leaving him be

I'm sorry to hear that, but it will be comforting knowing he's had an amazing life. Your making the right choice!

Sorry to hear the bad news Sarah, although you may have been prepared for it, its still a shock & distressing. As you say he's comfortable & happy now & you've made your decision for the future.
Thinking of you & Milo.
