I think it's for an overnight stay at a B&B that require dogs to be crated over night Caz

Crate training sounds like it's going well puppypal. I have to admit, we went against all the crate training methods when we got Pepper's crate. We just put her in and left her there! Oops. We did the same thing with Ellie too. Luckily, both dogs love their crates and willingly take themselves off to them if they feel like it. Having said that, I think we did start off by feeding Pepper in her crate and she had her nice, comfy bed in there to help her feel comfortable. I did the same with Oscar. I did feed him in there as well but he would send his water dish flying along with half the food! So I kind of just put him in, closed the door and expected him to like it. Bad decision, he would howl the house down, along with wet himself, tear up his bed and bite the bars! But when the door was left opened, he was fine and loved it. Don't use it anymore though, no need to.

More crate time!
dad is replacing another fence panel today so more crate time for barley, he was more willing to go in it, put his proper bed in there today and he had fun scrabbling at it and messing it up so that it was his kind of comfy, he is now asleep so no problems so far.
Last night we made a game of going in and out of the crate using both doors got the hang of it but when i shut the door he kept entering in he got confused and didn't know what to do, he didn't realise that he could go in then out of the other door (stupid dog) we then reversed it and then seemed to know what to do, then i had both doors open told him to go in and when he was in the crate tell him to sit or lie down then reward him, we also done some basic sit, down, stand, twist, bow and paw commands in the crate with both of the doors shut, this was good as he associated the crate with good things like treats, it also taught him to spin in a tighter circle but this also made him aware of his surroundings in the crate and that he can turn round if wanted to.

Now he will know his surroundings when in the crate and they will start to become more familiar to him. It sounds like he likes it so far

We do still use our crates, because both dogs are happy going in there to sleep and at random times during the day. I went upstairs before I sorted their tea out and when I came back down, Pepper was in her crate. No-one told her to go in there, she just chose to, so we don't want to take the crates away.

he has just had his dinner in his cage then started trying to bite the cage and claw at it so left him for a bit until he settled down then let him out, other than that he thinks crate training is the best thing in the world he gets to lie in a cage asleep the he gets treats thrown at him every so often he thinks it is the best and every training session should be like this as he does not have to do anything

Yeah Cooper loves his crate. It's his den, his bed. He goes in there throughout the day of his own accord and sleeps in there at night. And even though his not closed in at night anymore and could get out and roam round the room where the crate is, which has a small sofa in but he stays in there till breakfast time. When we go away he has one of those pop up fabric crates which are Fantastic.

we done some more work today as we had a guest round so he had to be confined so he could have his tea (bones) after he had eaten them i opened the cage door so he could come out for a drink and so on the just left the cage open, i went upstairs to get something and when i came down he was lying down in his crate so he got lots of treats and praise and told that he was a very good boy, very pleased with this as it was the first time he has gone into his crate voluntarily.

That's great puppypal that he seems so happy to be in the crate, especially as he chose to go inside it by himself too. Hope the training continues to go well. Bramble LOVES her crate and just takes herself off to it for a nap!! I think they like having a little den all of their own.

yeah he seems to like it, but the crate is not up all the time as it is very big and takes up a lot of space so that is why he has to have training sessions with the crate up. He has an XL crate which is very big.

Earl only uses one door in his crate as it is bigger, and there is also more enter/exit area surrounding the crate. Make sure to use fun rewards like treats and toys, depending on what he is orientated by. Keep doing this and I think Barley will really get the hang of his crate!
