Waited ages to see the vet with Kiba-Khan and the vet felt his tummy and said he is packed solid and has to have an xray, an anaesthetic and then an enema - poor thing. I had to take him to the other branch of the vets which is nearer where I work and I have to ring them at 4pm to see if he's okay to bring home. I dread to think how much this will cost as it is not covered by his insurance as it is a condition he had from a kitten.

Poor little sausage. I hope all goes well. Hopefully this won't be too dear for you. Perhaps you'll have to start up a little fund and try and stash money away in that in case it happens again?

I rang the vets at 4pm and they originally wanted to keep Kiba-Khan in overnight but as he was not very happy crammed into their small cage (he is a big cat, 20 pounds in weight) they decided I could fetch him and I have to take him back in the morning for the vet to decide if he needs more antibiotics. I saw his x-ray - not nice! Kiba-Khan was really happy to see me and has purred lots. He's a bit smelly and his back end needs a good wash even though the nurse said she washed him. I'm really pleased that he has just eaten some fish with lactulose on, the first thing he has eaten for days - he must have 2 doses of lactulose each day from now on to try and keep the constipation under control. I am wondering whether he eats too much dried food and not enough wet - I will ask the vet tomorrow. Kiba-Khan doesn't ever seem to drink enough so that's another thing I will need to watch. The vet is a bit worried that Kiba-Khan's colon won't contract back to its original size and this is a serious condition called mega colon and can end up with the cat having to have part of the colon taken away - I remember a thread on here recently where someone's cat had the operation and they died. And the cost of Kiba-Khan's treatment..............£227.76! My lovely daughter paid it for me - thank you Lindy xx

Wow! that's some bill lotsofcats, what a wonderful daughter you have.I remember a friend saying years ago that a cat she lost was due to it being fed dried food,so I would definately change over to wet food, especially if cat doesn't drink much.Humans who don't drink or exercise enough get constipated,so it sounds sensible. Been hoping you would manage to come on to tell us how things went,so it's lovely Kiba-Khan is obviously feeling better and happy to be home with you.

Glad you've got Kiba-Khan home & the fact he's eaten must make it worthwhile having to wash his back-end & the bill. That was nice of your daughter to pay the bill. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

great to read he is on the mend i was just having a look on the and seems plenty of water when using lactulose but its not easy to get a cat to drink more water so maby wet food and add a little extra water to it i used to do that for spider when he didnt drink enough vet wasnt shy when using the calculator but so long as big man is ok thats all that matters we can make more money

Please don't worry too much. Sausage has had loads of enemas and he's fine. The stretching is only permanent after a week or so. He'll be fine I'm sure. xx

Don't despair. It can take awhile before it settles after stretching for some time. Let us know what the vet said this morning. Good luck.

I took Kiba-Khan to be checked this morning and the vet said he is okay and didn't need any more antibiotics. He felt his tummy and said he thought Kiba must have used the litter tray during the night. Kiba ate a bit of fish last night with lactulose on and he ate some wet cat food this morning. He is still very smelly so I washed his back end for him. I have to check that he is drinking more water. I asked about his Royal Canin Maine Coon biscuits that he loves and the vet said that he can have them but with water on them as they can be making the constipation worse. So more wet food, more lactulose and more water from now on.
