He's been having daily short walks sometimes twice a day (in which case both very short). Today was not a good one though. I took him out lunchtime just as a man with a measuring wheel came down the path at the side of our house (our front garden only has a low picket fence along side the path so he was very visible). All 3 cats were spooked a bit by him.
Next was a mistake on my behalf as I wanted to know why he was measuring in case we were due for tarmacing. So picked up Roman & moved to the end of the drive & asked the man what he was measuring for. He decided to swing his wheel over his shoulder & head towards me. Roman really panicked & tried frantically to climb over my shoulder. I asked the man not to come any closer, with not much avail until I asked again at which point he said I'd spoken to him first & why not closer- prat, he couldn't have missed a cat being frantic I explained it wasn't him but the cat & apparently he was just measuring all footpaths for mapping purposes.
I put Roman down again once the man had gone but he was still spooked. It was windy so I don't think that helped. We started to walk around the corner from the drive towards the path & something spooked him in the bushes (possible Osiris) & he panicked & tried to run for home & of course he couldn't with the lead so was twisting & turning.
I tried to get to him but he seemed frightened of me, but he eventually settled & I was able to pick him up & reassured him. I carried him to the path & we walked up to the next close where he saw a cat at the far end & so his brakes went on. Decided it was time to head home which he did reasonably well but got a bit funny as we got to the drive again.
We managed to get up the drive but then he didn't want to go to the door but wouldn't let me near him to herd him that way or pick him up. Eventually he managed it & was fine indoors.
This evening we went for a walk & he was ok but still very cautious/jumpy. He had a very slight limp on the way back. but seems Ok now.
He has a good & bad days, not normally too bad, but he is getting extremely bored. We've got a vet's visit on Friday, the 6 weeks is up on Monday & his vaccinations are also due so made the appointment a couple of days early. I hope the vet says he's good enough to be allowed to do stairs as that means we can let him have the run of the house overnight which will make him feel a bit better (I hope) but not necessarily Osiris! It'll be 9 weeks from his operation on Friday, of which he spent a very large proportion in his crate!
However I'm not sure that he has recovered far enough yet, his muscles still aren't fully working - he still can't use his left hind to scratch with, the paw below the hock still flaps clear of his chin & it doesn't seem to have anything like the same resistance to pressure as the good one does. I don't know enough about the muscle/tendon arrangements which would cause this as it was his knee that was operated on not his hock.
Oh well the vet will probably be able to tell me more.
