Pets I own: Rosie a Maine Coon, Red and Cream.Aged 4 year in (May2014), a BIG quiet girl, and TiaMaria a Black Russian years on (Nov 2013) who is amazing fun.
Sadly Tia was killed in July 2014 by a car.
My son has Parkinsons and lives 2 miles from me. I got him RILEY a black stray 2year old in February 2014, but from a rescue 14 months ago.Very involved with him !
Pebbles age unknown, thrown out of a car, went to my daughter. Also involved with him ! ALL are adorable and so different.
Now (OCT 2014) have a kitten called Lilyana. She looks like her Mum, a Russian Blue. Her Dad is a Rag Doll. She was born on 24/07/2014....the day my darling Tia was killed on the road.
This was meant to be and she is helping me grieve for Tia. Lilyana is delightful.Rosie is now taking to her

Hi All, I am rushing of to Edinburgh, which is 2 hours away, to see a kitten at 1 o'Clock. I need advise. The kitten is 10 weeks old. I want it to sleep in the kitchen with Rosie, my 4 year old Maine Coon, but I know Rosie won't be too happy about that to begin with. Rosie will be able to distance herself from the kitten by going up onto the kitchen table, work surfaces and window sill. Her Dried food is on the table. The kitten will never be able to eat that as it is far to big a kibble (Royal Canin for MC's) I know this as Tia my last cat, a Russian, had teeth that were too small for it. This kitten is a Russian also. Rosie does not eat wet food. The kitten can have her food at floor level, so that should work. I will put an other litter tray in the kitchen. If I then put another litter tray in the spare bedroom and keep the kitten in there at night to begin with, will she use both trays ? Or should I keep her in the kitchen from the start as that is where I would want her to sleep perminantly ? I will be home by tea time at the latest and see your replies then if anyone does reply. Oh I am excited. Wish me luck. Talk later.

Exciting news. I must say I've never separated a new arrival from the others. Against all advices from experts. As long as the little one cannot reach the kitchen table Rosie can eat in peace. They are not "attached" to a particular litter box and use all three of them. They don't sleep in my bedroom as a rule, but the first two nights I left the door open, so I could hear if it stays quiet or if they "kill" each other. Hissing, yes, but that was all. Have a good trip. (pictures, please)

So excited for you. If you intend the new kitten to sleep in the kitchen I think you should start with as soon as possible. Word of warning though - a determined kitten will climb up on the table AND eat the Royal Canin MC kibble - I should know, my 2 x 3 year olds were always after it as kittens so I used to cut the kibbles in half for them!!! (yes, honestly). All of my 7 cats eat the Royal Canin MC kibbles - they love it. Obviously my 2 Maine Coons have the most and the others have a few of them. Have you got a cat cage/crate? I've always let kittens sleep in a cage until the other cats were used to them.
The kitten should use both litter trays.
I hope that Rosie will get on well with the new kitty - have you picked a name yet? Will you get her at 12 weeks? I'm excited!

I'm home. I bought her. She slept all the way home then hid under my chair. She is still there. I was told she was nearly 10 weeks but I really think she is much younger ! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow morning and I will ask what she thinks. She is very small, quite tiny. Her name is LILYANA I found it on a Russian site. What do you think ? Her mother was a Russian Blue, her Dad a Ragdoll. She looks exactly like her Mum, whom I saw along with her brother. No papers as her Mum is not 100% Russian Blue but looks it. Oh she is adorable. I am so happy. She was born on the day Tia died so I feel she is meant for me.
Thanks for all your replies. I am not thinking straight at the moment as I am on a fluffy cloud somewhere !
My visit to see my Aussie grandchildren in Bristol went like a dream. It was a joy to be with them.
Must go as Stuart, my son is coming over to see Lilyana soon.

Welcome to your new home Lilyana tiarosie she sounds an interesting combination Russian & Ragdoll. I presume she is a Blue Russian as that was what you wanted. It really does sound that it was meant to be. Can't really give any advice as we've never introduced a kitten but whenever we've introduced a cat (always an adult) into the household we've kept them separate for a period & introduced them gradually. this worked for Roman to Chloe, then Penny & Osiris (we got them together) to Roman but wasn't a roaring success with introducing Lexie to the other 3 but then I think it wasn't the process but the nature of Lexie compared to the other 3. I think the idea of a cage is a good one if you have room (& a cage) as it might also give the kitten confidence in new surroundings.

Sounds like a lovely kitten. Good luck with her. So we both have a cat with a Russian name, though mine actually came from Russia.

I am so pleased for you - what a coincidence that Lilyana (gorgeous name) was born the same day that Tia died - fate, I think. I can't wait to see photos of her. A lovely mixture, Russian and Ragdoll. Good luck with her. Hope she's been okay with Rosie.

wee update. On Day 1 Lilyana hid and hid. She was scared of every noise and move.Did not eat or drink !
On Day 2 Vet checked, all A1, so I calmed down. She started eating in the evening and purred whe cuddled but still hiding quite a bit.Ate a little food in the evening.
On Day 3 Drank very diluted evaporated milk and woolfed down Whiskas Kitten Food. Ran around the room, played a little. Ran to me and wanted to play. She has opted to sleep in her carry basket for days, but today wee'd at the back of it on a tea towel but not on her bedding. This evening she cuddled into me and slept next to my leg on my chair as I held her. I then discovered she had wee'd on my cardigan ! I moved the wee'd on tea towel into her litter tray and covered it with a little litter. Hopefully she will get the idea. That carry basket was covered, so I wonder if the litter tray she used with her Mum and brother was too. The litter trays I provided were open so that might have confused her. I put the top of the carry basket over the open litter tray so that might help.Heaven knows where she has poo'd. I don't see it anywhere and have little sense of smell.Big hunt planned !

It must be quite stressful leaving mum & brother & going to a new home so she's doing well in not hiding so much in 3 days & wanting to play & cuddle. Has Rosie met her yet, if she hasn't she must be intrigues by the new smells on you tiarosie. When we first got Lexie (at 2.5 years old) we had a cat bed for her in which we'd put a t-shirt from her previous owner. She wee'd in that instead of the litter tray although she was used to an open litter tray with the same litter as we provided. She's also done that a couple of times at the cattery so it seems to be stress related, although the last time she did it at the cattery it was towards the end of the week she was there - odd! Mind you she does use wee'ing as a marking of objects she wants or smells of the other cats on occasion. Although she does seem to have stopped that now. Lilyana could be stressed (not surprising really) or marking territory or just to worn out to get to the litter tray. Has she used the litter tray at all?
