My labs (both 21months) got their first juicy proper bones last night and loved them and even took their time munching them! but since I'm at work today my mum has them she's text me complaining dexter has in her words 'pooped bits out the size of a table tennis ball' she does have a tendency to exaggerate and I was sitting out in the garden with them while they had the bones keeping a beady eye on them since it was their first bone and they did take their time and I don't think he swallowed big bits but who knows. ive heard people freeze the bones and some give the dogs frozen bones so they last longer, what's thoughts on this? Doesn't this make them more brittle or chill their tummy? just looking to see what others think?

When we get bones the butcher always gives us quite a few, so Jasper gets one fresh and the rest go in the freezer. We thaw them out before giving them to him. I think we do it coz we wouldn't eat anything frozen except ice cream. plus it makes any meat on them easier for him to get off.

Amber tends to get them thawed, although I keep them frozen on hot days so it's like an ice lolly for her! Holly wouldn't approve if I gave her her one frozen though it'd be too cold for her even if it was a roasting hot day!! Although most of the stuff she gets would be more edible rather than recreational bones.

You can give them whatever way your dog prefers. Frozen bones do tend to last longer.
Oscar gets both, it just depends on when I remember to take them out of the freezer.
When you say 'pooped bits out the size of a table tennis ball', do you mean chunks of bone?

I would do what your gut instinct tells you. You know what is good for your dog(s).
Surely as long as the poops coming out are not painful to the dog, they are fine? I wouldn't complain about weird poops as long as the dog is ok releasing them.
If you freeze bones make sure they 'warm up' before giving them to the dog(s)! They will most likely not take to them if they freeze their mouths as soon as they go to eat them!

Where did you get this from? Its never bothered Oscar if bones were fresh from the freezer. I also do not know how you can warm up a frozen bone. I've also never heard of any frozen bone that can freeze a dogs mouth when they go to eat it.....

When you say 'pooped bits out the size of a table tennis ball', do you mean chunks of bone? I think that's what she means, I haven't seen her today. My other half got home before I did and my mums away out to engagement party so I'm thinking she meant bits of bone he didn't chew properly and went straight thru. he wasnt struggling and they both poo'd fine this morning and since I've been home and seem fine some as an occasional treat I'm happy to keep feeding. Im going to freeze the bones I have and will probably defrost them. Ive given them huge ice cubes before with treats and kings frozen in them before on hot days which I know they love
