As most if not all of you know about a year ago Gypsy had pancreatic episode and vet thinks she has chronic pancreatitis. She has been on Lypex ever since. Fingers crossed and hope I do not speak too soon but the combination of low fat raw diet and lypex seems to have been working, though I do wonder if she should also be getting a pre/probiotic supplement too, to help keep gut healthy!
When I have accidentally run out of Lypex within a day or two her poos are not as well formed as they should be so I do think the Lypex is helping her. Vet has questioned EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) but I am unaware of any specific tests they have done to prove or disprove it. Vet just implies keep giving the Lypex, though vet I am seeing now is not the one who did diagnosis.
Hoping some people who know about these kind of supplements or have had experience of pancreatitis or EPI and what worked for them can advise?
I am always looking out for suitable alternatives.
I do not want to use products that you have to leave for 20 mins before feeding, Gypsy would turn the kitchen into a swimming pool drooling waiting for it if I did!
The price of Lypex online has slowly been going up. Been using Animed as a supplier for many months as they have tended to be the cheapest I could find.
The enteric coating is suppose to help get the enzymes to the intestines where they are needed to digest the food.
Lypex contains Protease 1200, Lipase 30000 and Amylase 18750 per capsule and Gypsy gets 2 a day.

Vet UK do an own product. From description I am thinking this might be in pill form rather than pellet form lypex is in (i.e you empty capsule out with Lypex). This one contains Protease 1,600 PhEur units, Lipase 88,000 PhEur units, Amylase 21,205 PhEur units per tablet and Gypsy would need 2 a day.

I also wonder about Dr Mercola Healthy Pets Digestive Enzymes for pets which on face of it has its ingredients come from natural sources i.e papaya, pineapple .... Units throw me on this one to compare with the other products. This product is not enteric-coated and not claiming it would be deemed in same league as the products listed above i.e this is a supplement rather than a medical supplement!

She is due to get the chance to try some pigs pancreas this next month to see if it suits her but not looking to use this to replace a supplement. For a start on price grounds but secondly would have no idea on dosage either. Just going to feed as part of her 5% other offal.
