It's entirely possible I've just missed it (I'm good at that ) but why isn't the forum advertised in magazines? Surely this would be a good way to get more members on board? Your Pet

I do not think the link on the Your Dog website is that obvious unlike the facebook and twitter ones!
The forum used to get mentioned in the magazine every month (guess many years ago now!), even would put in a comment or two that members had made about something! The magazine is not sold where I locally shop (used to buy the odd one depending on topics it would cover) so do not get it anymore so I am unable to comment how much the forum is promoted or not in it.

I don't subscribe anymore so don't get every issue, but we do get occasional copies of YD & YC sent to work as we've advertised in it before, and I don't recall seeing the forum mentioned. Seems a shame as it'd surely reach so many dog/cat owners and probably provide a good influx of new members. There are other pet forums about which are hugely active (only other one I'm on is a hamster specific one and even that is very busy!).

Historically the YC forum was in the magazine & on the website barley (as was the YD one) however as Facebook took over the world & the numbers declined on the forum it gradually vanished from both. A catch22 situation for the company - from my perspective as not on any social networks its a shame but from a business viewpoint I can see why as forums are gradually being replaced by FB etc. At least they still keep this forum going

They don't even mention it on twitter any more from what I can see, and that was how I heard about it in the first place.

More footfall on the forum, means more people viewing/clicking on the adverts displayed, and that's usually how free-access forums make a small profit (?) Perhaps there's a very good reason the forum isn't advertised Just seems a shame this one is so quiet, I know FB is popular but there are other pet forums which are so busy in comparison. Just thinking out loud really

I found the forum when I went onto Proboards support looking for answers to a problem we ( a friend and I were having with our own forum. When I go on there I often read other peoples questions / problems , at that time our forum was going thru an up graded, as was everyone else now 4 years down the road Proboards are doing another up grade version , hope theres not too many changes this forum had just switched to Proboards and James was asking questions

I only found the forum when I went on the YD website to enter the competition, I just happened to spot a link for it. I'd never seen or heard of it before then.

Hi barley - it's mentioned in the blue strip across the bottom of each right hand page in that section of the magazine - and also in the 'Got a problem? We can solve it!' grey box on the first page of Dog Answers. Admittedly not in the most obvious of places!

It is mentioned on the dog answers pages of the magazine on the blue strip at the bottom with the facebook and twitter links on, I didn't find out about this place from the mag though, I was just randomly searching dog forums one day and came across this one, then saw it was linked to YD so I joined . I do think the mag could do more advertising of this forum though, like I notice it at the bottom of the page cos I read everything on the page but most people probably wont and this forum is quiet compared to others ive seen, it would be nice if it had more publicity and more people joining, we are a nice bunch .

Interestingly barley I was just looking for a new cat climber on the Kalven website (they have a stand at various cat shows & will also make to measure) & found this forum's url on their links page! I'm always finding co-incidences with this company, not only the link to here around the time this thread was under discussion, but also a few years back I was looking at it & found that the home page photo was taken by a good friend of mine who took up photography (mainly animal) semi-professionally when he retired!!! The oddity is that the company is in Yorkshire, I'm in Lancashire (not too far away) but my friend is from my years in Brighton (I moved away in 2000)!!
