Anyone know if dicalcium phosphate is bad for dogs? Just came up on a discussion on facebook. After trying to do a bit of googling I am still no better off, some websites imply it should be avoided at all costs, others imply that it is a good supplement to provide calcium as it is easily digested!
Reason I ask is its in some raw completes like Natures Menu, Natural Instinct (just one tub) and I do occasionally use these products when I need an easy meal for the dogs (such as holidays, when family feed dogs on my behalf etc)

I have no idea but am also very interested. I rely on some NM nuggets to get different protein sources.

Despite what the name suggests, dicalcium phosphate isn't actually that good for calcium. Yes it is easily absorbed, however it contains more phosphate in terms of weight. Phosphate happens to be a source of phosphorus and in this case, dicalcium phosphate contains more biolavaiable phosphorus than other similar supplements.
Toxic in high amounts, yes. But I wouldn't be concerned.
I would not be using it as a calcium supplement though.
