Thanks for the warning CollieSlave I was not awate farmers used them, not that we walk on farm land but the other day around town I noted the council were using them in great quantities on the flower beds we walked past and Beau went sniffing, probably to pee over another dogs scent

Yes I was aware but I think many dog owners aren't. It can be quite risky altogether walking on farmland what with these and pesticides/insecticides and dangerous pieces of equipment left in long grass. Unfortunately some farmers are very careless! Years ago we had a young Golden Retriever at work who was rushed in after eating slug pellets. The farmer had left an open container of slug pellets not on his own land, but on the grass verge of a country lane just feet away from a public right of way used frequently by local dog owners! Sadly the poor dog did not survive despite every attempt to save him. The farmer was reported and fined of course. Makes me furious to think about it even now...

I hadn't thought about farmers using the slug pellets (luckily its a country park close to us rather than farmers' fields) but with outdoor cats I always hope that the gardens they roam through don't use them. There are quite a few pet owners around here so hopefully they don't use them. However there are some who don't have pets & are proud of their gardens so might not be aware (or care) about the danger to domestic animals & wildlife.

I saw that article in the Telegraph at work and was pretty gobsmacked as I wasn't aware that farmers used slug pellets on their land No wonder farms are so barren of wildlife!!!!!
