I have a smooth haired miniature dachshund and we have previously used Neem 40 Pet guard spray which was a herbal spray and seemed to be quite effective against ticks, mites etc however it does not seem to be available anymore, just wondered if anybody has any advice on a good alternative?

smilesbetter and migsy might be able to advise on ACV, believe both of them use it as a repellent for bugs. orpheous87 might be able to advise on BNM and skinny spray by CSJ as I think she has used both products again to repel the bugs. Sure she has used Ekoneem Neem shampoo bar too. Sorry can not advise on any myself.

Yes, I've used Skinny Spray, and Skinny Shampoo by CSJ which both seem quite successful. I sprayed all 3 dogs today with Skinny Spray because last night Cody was going mad jumping round and staring/nibbling at his back. There has been none of that behaviour today, so I think the spray has perhaps helped.
I have an ekoneem shampoo bar but haven't actually used it yet as I've misplaced it! I have used Ekoneem oil though, which is very effective. It can be applied directly to the dog's coat/skin to repel bugs but won't kill them. It is also very effective on bites on human skin as I've used it a few times myself.
I get my sprays from My Itchy Dog.

Might not be what you're looking for but I use Advantix and am very happy with it.

PetCare Notix is a great alternative. I have tried it on my dog and it is quite effective. You can repel bugs for long by using this spray on your dog's body. Make sure your dog is properly bathed with pets medicated shampoo only, don't use shampoos of human.
