Gypsy not great again , I was at work and family member took her to the vets for me. Downside of that is I perhaps have not got what I needed from the appointment excluding some Lypex which I did ask for . She was sick yesterday but she is mainly doing dodgy poos. Mums dog had a 24 hr bug and Gypsy has followed suit however hers has continued for a few days and the poo I saw this morning (have not seen others as she has performed for dad rather than me) shouted previous issues rather than dodgy belly! Assuming at the moment that it is the Pancreatitis again, though she has not had anything that could cause a problem i.e all been low fat of late. Only thing is I had run out of Lypex as there was question if it should be continued and was going to make a vet appointment to discuss. Therefore getting suspicious of EPI. Just in case its not pancreatic issues vet has quoted for faecal sample including Giardia. Will a vet faecal test cover significantly more things than doing a wormcount one? Just I could do 4 wormcounts with lungworm element for the vet quote! As it happens I had done the verm-x for the three days prior to issues starting. Also quoted for bloods, quoted for health profile including red and white bloods + pancreatic enzymes. What should I be requesting to cover diabetes, pancreatic, EPI and liver? (may as well cover past issues (liver) as well as those things that I know affected her mum (diabetes)).

(may as well cover past issues (liver) as well as those things that I know affected her mum (diabetes)). Sorry to read Gypsy is experiencing problems again caz2golden . I spoke to Michaela the Director from Wormcount some time ago and she advised that though the faecal tests cover the obvious parasites ie tapeworms, roundworms, whipworms and hookworms, if they identify giardia, coccidia etc they do advise the customer of this and recomend methods of treatment. A full blood count and biochemistry test would identify any problems with the kidneys, liver, pancreas. Vets can also do a 'snap test' to check for lipase for pancreatitis and have the results within 30 mins in emergency situations. You mentioned that you'd run out of the Lypex and without it Gypsy's inflammed pancreas may not be getting the support it needs to digest food properly, but it could just be the pancreatitis. I know with dogs with EPI they also usually have Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth which would result is a deficiency in B12 and would show up on blood work. Dogs with EPI usually lose suffer drastic weight loss and actually look malnourished and produce yellow, greasy stools, which is basically the fat from the dog's food not being processed. My dog Oscar was suspected of having this when he was young because he was constantly hungry, really skinny, chronic diarrhea, poor coat etc but it ended up being Inflammatory Bowel Disease. It can be very tricky managing dogs with pancreatitis and often slight changes to the diet are enough to cause a flare up - better to keep things simple and if you find a diet that works...stick with it. Its an awful condition and I really feel for you.

No advice to offer I'm afraid, but thinking of you and Gypsy and keeping fingers and paws crossed for a speedy recovery xx

Thank you both for your replies.
Think I may go with the wormcount for now, obviously sharing any results (be it clear or not) with the vets.
I have been unsure Lypex was making much difference for her. Obviously with hindsight I was wrong with that thought! New months supply will be ordered asap, vet has given me about 10 days supply to bail me out!
I do still feel I am trying to work out what is best for her diet wise!
Poor new vet at the practice, having me on Monday asking the usual stupid and crazy questions! Hope he is a vet who likes lots of questions and often slightly obscure ones:D ! He only arrived about a fortnight ago. Met him earlier in week with Phoebe. Monday is going to be a very expensive birthday present for Gypsy!

Bloods have been taken today, could take up to a week to get the full results of them.
