I'm at my wit's end with this dog.
She can't be an outside dog. She destroys EVERYTHING. As in, kills chickens, eats all the eggs, digs holes big enough for 3 dogs in under 5 minutes, EVERYTHING.
In the house I have to watch her constantly. She's only 6 months so I was expecting this. I've had puppies before of various different breeds. German Shepherd, Lab/Pointer, helped out with bully pup. THIS dog is a mix between a Catahoula and a Black Mouthed Cur.
Let me also mention: I did not buy her, I did not originally want her, I would have cautioned against her purchase.
My inlaws decided they wanted a dog to help herd their small herd of sheep and goats. Without putting hardly any thought or research into it they bought this puppy (it should be noted Black Mouthed Curs are hunting dogs used for hunting hogs). She was 5 weeks old. Bother her parents are working dogs of their own trades. Her Catahoula mom herds cattle. Anyway, my inlaws don't know the first thing about owning a dog much less training one to herd sheep. They couldn't handle her. The older she got the harder it was to control her. It got to the point where she was chained up to a tree all day, and all night. No dog house because she tried to chew it. They weren't interested in any of my suggestions. My husband and I got sick of seeing their complete lack of interest and took her from them.
Now, I know how to obedience train. I've trained my own dogs. This girl is good. She's smart, she's responsive and all she wants is to please. When I'm home.
#1 problem: I have to work full time. I can't watch her 24/7
I have crate trained her.
She gets into the most trouble while in her crate. I do not put a bed into the crate. Crate pan only. I give her a chew bone. She won't touch it.
One day I came home to find the crate pan pushed out of her crate, the entire crate rotated 180 degrees and moved the full width of the crate and 6" to the side and the other dog's bed shredded and all the stuffing inside her crate.
Another time I came home (I had only been gone a few hours) and she had pulled the clear vinyl table cloth off my table (it was a foot away from the crate!) And shredded it. Her chewbone was there under the plastic.
!!!!!!!!
What do I do with this dog??? Like I said, she great when I'm here to watch her but she's freaking Houdini when she's in her crate while I'm gone. Are there any indestructable toys I can put in there?
