I made some apple and cinnamon dog treats the other night, they smelt delicious when i was cooking them and barley seems to really like them, cant remember what recipe i used but it was a dough and i made it into a large flat square then scored lines on it with a knife then cooked it and it was quite soft when it came out.

You can get dried goats milk which is easier for dogs to digest than cows milk, I personally would use wholemeal flour or a 50/50mixture of wholemeal and plain white flour. If using just using wholemeal you will probably need more liquid. If you don't want to use grain flours any good health food shop has a good variety of different lour such as potatoe flour chestnut flour brown rice flour etc., all of which may more liquid than conventional white flour.

I made these for Lucy's birthday, she wasn't that keen on them, but Todd and Katy loved them!
3 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 2 cup Quaker oats 1 cup milk 1/2 cup hot water 2 beef or chicken bouillon cubes 1/2 cup meat drippings
Dissolve bouillon cubes in hot water. Add milk and drippings and beat. In a separate bowl, mix flour and oatmeal. Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients and mix well. Press onto an ungreased cookie sheet and cut into shapes desired. Bake at 300 for 1 hour. Turn off heat and leave in the oven to harden. Refrigerate after baking.

I sort of made up my own recipe for dog treats: 250g plain flour 125g cottage cheese 100g grated cheese 2 tbsp oil 150ml of water, with more if needed. I just mix all the ingrediants together, either roll and cut or just use a spoon, put them in the oven on gas mark 5 until golden brown and leave to cool. Our dogs really enjoy them. For a friends dog who is allergic to wheat and dairy products, I boiled some brown rice, mushed it up with a fork, added a small jar of salmon paste and some finely chopped ham, then cooked in the oven on a low heat for 30 minutes, until browned. Apparently she loved them
