Have you bought a pet from a classified ad site?
FOUR PAWS is interested in your experience!!
There are many people who sell animals using classified ad sites, such as Gumtree, FreeAds, Dogs&puppies, Loot, Friday-Ad, Preloved, etc . Have you or your friends bought an animal online and had a bad experience? For example, the animal was ill, illegal, had fake paperwork, kept in poor conditions, or not as described in the advert? Then, please write to us!! We are looking for stories which we can use for our campaign work. Whether you bought a dog, cat, exotic pet, fish, bird or small mammal (i.e. rabbit), we are interested in hearing about your experience. Of course we treat your information confidentially and we’ll contact you before using or publishing your story.
Please share your story with us by sending an e-mail to online-pets(at)vier-pfoten.org .Your support will help us make these sites more secure and protect animal welfare. To find out more about our work visit four-paws.org.uk
Please include in the email: the classified site you’ve used, the animal’s species/breed, a photo of your pet (if possible), date of purchase, your story, and if possible a copy/receipt of the online advert.

We got Alfie from an online ad on Pets4Homes - it was an ok experience. The only thing we did wrong was not see either of his parents which we'd never do again. However we've never had any problems or health issues with him (touch wood!). This was nearly 8 years ago now.

Mines was in Germany so maybe doesn't interest yous although actually I've heard of Vier Pfoten from here. We got our old cat Carlotta from eBay Kleinanzeigen (exactly like gumtree) and were told they had to get rid of her as they were moving house (not getting rid of their big Labrador though which we did find weird). The woman was crying when we went to get her and we realised later it was most likely her man had given her an ultimatum as Carlotta vomited absolutely every night for months till we finally found a diet she wasn't allergic to. She had to go to the vet quite a lot and later she was diagnosed with cancer and had to be put down. I've no idea whether the previous owners knew this or not but certainly most people would get annoyed with the constant vomiting after a while.
I'm glad we got her though and feel we gave her a great end to her life. I wouldn't have traded her for anything.
We found the advert for our dog Rosa on the same website and we got to see the mother (the father was a stud, but we did later meet him) and the breeders were fantastic. We signed a detailed contract which we were very happy with and the breeders have kept in touch ever since and absolutely love Rosa.
