Was at the vet's yesterday (diffrent one) and she was very thorough with Mary. She said she could feel an edge on her liver and a slight blip on her thyroid and put her on a special Hills diet, and gave her a worm tablet. She has to go back in 2 weeks for a blood test. Still worried as not sure what to make of the outcome. I have to monitor Mary and check each day what comes out both ends of her (oh what joy) but I am glad I changed vets. Mary was ever so good and the vet loved her and said she'd never met a cat called Mary. She also said that she had a lot of gas in her stomach. She is on hunger strike, she won't eat the hills wet food only the dry. Don't want her to starve, so will have to give her her normal food if she doesn't eat soon. I have mixed it with her other food but she hasn't even looked at it.

glad you found a good vet its going to take time to get her to change to a new food but i dont think a cat will let itself starve but its so hard to watch a cat that just wont eat when u know its hungry but the dry will keep her going our lad wont eat hills wet but makes a great hand of there dry its great the way she got on with the new vet

From my experience cat can be very stubborn with food changes or any change for that matter but will never starve themselves. I would mix a little of the new with what they already have and just give it time.

My 3 are still on hunger strike, but all eat when they think no-one is looking.

I've found a few pets who refuse Hills. Maybe ask your vet about a different brand, Royal Canin for example. Where they may refuse one, they may not refuse another and i know those 2 do the same prescription diet. Glad you like the new vet! Have to say I've never met a Mary either. Captain Buggernuts and Sergeant Sausage on the other hand...

Mary, Mary quite contrary! Glad that you both liked the new vet. Shame that Mary doesn't like her Hills diet but like Vonnie says, you can try other similar brands - they are quite expensive though. Hope that all is okay with the blood test in a couple of weeks.

I give her half of her gourmet pouch in the morning and evening and I leave the hills dry out for her, she is a little happier now she is getting what she likes. I shall definately ask the vet about RC but I know Mary probably wouldn't eat that either.
